Lance Posted September 29, 2016 Share #1 Posted September 29, 2016 An NJ Transit train crashed into the station in Hoboken at the height of Thursday's morning rush, leaving twisted piles of metal and bricks as concern grew over the possibility of mass casualties and dozens of injuries. Preliminary reports suggest the crash involving train No. 1614 on the Pascack Valley Line was an accident, according to two local law enforcement officials, though they stress it is early in the investigation. Pictures on social media showed serious damage to the train station and extensive structural damage to the station. At least one of the NJ Transit cars appeared to be partially inside the building, with some of the supporting beams that hold up the canopy where the trains come in caved in around it.Read more: Source

rbrome Posted September 29, 2016 Share #4 Posted September 29, 2016 Tragic. I hope this brings much-needed attention to NJT's slow pace of PTC installation.
paulrivera Posted September 29, 2016 Share #5 Posted September 29, 2016 Channel 7's investigative reporter brought up a good point just now: There's an interlocking about 1,000 feet from the terminal, and if the train would have been significantly speeding through the interlocking it probably would have derailed near at a switching point and wouldn't have even made it to the terminal. Also, since track 5 is over the PATH tubes, PATH service will need to be suspended.
R10 2952 Posted September 29, 2016 Share #6 Posted September 29, 2016 I hope this brings much-needed attention to NJT's slow pace of PTC installation. Can't see them moving quickly on important upgrades with a "let's-defund-everything" governor at the helm; why else you think NJT isn't involved with the Penn Station project?
