Mayor Bloomberg's budget cuts run deep through FDNY, NYPD, schools and services
Most city workers wouldn't get a raise under the new budget Mayor Bloomberg unveiled Thursday afternoon - unless they work harder, pay more for health care or agree to reduce pensions for new employees.
Teachers would get a 2% raise, but only on the first $70,000 of their salaries. "The savings we would make would mitigate the need to lay off 2,500 teachers," Bloomberg said. "The world has changed, and we have to make a choice. Do we want to pay more and have 2,500 fewer teachers, or have 2,500 more teachers?" The mayor had previously budgeted for 1.25% increases for most workers, worth $190 million, as well as hefty 4% raises for teachers. Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local/...#ixzz0dw9xNcbe |

It's harsh to be a city employee right now.

This guy is such an a-hole it's ridiculous. There are so many other things it's possible to cut without hurting the hardworking city employees who keep vital services such as this going. When he cuts back on the FDNY, such as if he closes firehouses, some of the deaths that result as a consequence of longer response times will be solely on HIS hands.
He continues to stand for big business and not the hardworking citizens of NYC. He ran on improvements to education but all he has done is prepare kids for tests, not life, dumb down schools, and now he's cutting a lot of them all together. He's a joke..

That's also partly due to the fault of the Bush and Obama administration.

only if you're solely depending on it for employment.

I don't want any fire stations to closed because that is also most important with emergency response.
I saved EO44 from shutdown at rally. I am planning to rally with FDNY to keep all fire stations open. They play important roles, putting up fire, assisting medical, educating students, etc.

Yeah, stuff like this is where the 'stimulus package' should be going. Not the big companies.

That's why I post the stuff I post here all the time. Agree with it or not, the amount of money used to "save" one investment banker's job can save 5-10 teachers/cops/firefighters/transit workers/etc.

The "bailout" should not be confused with the "stimulus", they have 2 different purposes, and the money goes to 2 totally different places with totally different conditions.
Stimulus = given to state, city, and other agencies to do things, as well as grants for private projects. Meant to create and save jobs. Not all of it has even been given out yet. There could be a jobs bill to boost this to help it gather momentum. Bailout = a one time emergency plan to save financial system from collapse, which will largely have been repaid by the lend-ees (banks) to the federal government by 2011. No they don't get to keep the money as some have suggested. The problem with bloomturd, is that he is a billionaire & has no idea how real people live. How about NYC mayoral election replaced by random drawing of current citizens? - A |
