Septa has already renamed their rail lines on their website with the current lines in ().
Here the table: Airport Line.........................(R1) Warminster Line......................(R2) Wilmington/Newark Line....................(R2) West Trenton Line....................(R3) Media/Elwyn Line.....................(R3) Lansdale/Doylestown Line..........................(R5) Paoli/Thorndale Line..............................(R5) Manayunk/Norristown Line.......................(R6) Cynwyd Line.............................(R6) Chestnut Hill East Line.............................(R7) Trenton Line....................................(R7) Chestnut Hill West Line..............................(R8) Fox Chase Line........................(R8) I just have one concern, shouldn't one of Chestnut Hill Lines should be renamed with second name? Ex...Chestnut Hill/North Philadelphia Line (R8)?

I like the idea of using terminal names for lines, however I don't like the lack of color. At least with NJT, Metro-North, and LIRR, they have colors for lines/branches.
And N-Trizzy, same could be said for the Trenton and West Trenton lines.

What a shame! I think
should seriously reconsider dropping the R-numbers, because the through-routing is something that made the Regional Rail system unique and progressive among North American commuter rail systems and it made it easy to know where your train was headed if you were traveling through Center City. But then messed with it, by not routing trains from one end of each R-route to the other. For example, runs R6 Norristown trains to Wilmington on what's shown as the R2 line. They run alternating R1 Airport trains to Warminster (R2) and West Trenton (R3). R6 Cynwyd trains simply end in Center City. Midday and weekend R3 Elwyn trains terminate at Temple University. Since most Norristown and Wilmington trains are through-routed, why not just designate them that way and call Norristown-to-Wilmington/Newark service the R6 (or R2)? Why not designate Warminster-to-Airport service as R2 (or R1)? It seems like is de-emphasizing the Center City commuter tunnel when they should be emphasizing it more. |
