R46 Transfer Weekend of 6/26/10

Recommended Posts

Just got an Email from a most reliable source telling me that 38x4 R46 units totaling 152 cars will be transfered from JYD next weekend since the the V will be history. They will be moved in 19x8 car trains with 15 going to temporary storage at 207 and 4 to Pitkin entering service "immediately". The ones at 207 will be released for service once they are inspected. This will allow retirement of the remaing 136 active R44's. There is no timetable as to when the last R44 will be retired and all R46's above #5822 will be available for A line service.

For space constrictions, here is the low number from each set to be transfered (missing cars should be already in then A line pool):

5822, 5830, 5838, 5854, 5898, 5914, 5918, 5934, 5938, 5954, 5958, 5970, 5978, 5982, 5990, 5994, 6002, 6006, 6010, 6018, 6022, 6026, 6042, 6050, 6058, 6062, 6066, 6070, 6074, 6078, 6086, 6090, 6094, 6098, 6106, 6114, 6122, 6194.

Thanks for the info, so this will leave Jamaica with enough R46s for (R) & (G) service.

As well as the (F) since they never disappeared from the (F) even when the line was 99.9% R160.

Glad to see that a decisive R-46 transfer plan has been procured for the retirement of R-44s, because some of those remaining R-44s are really starting to show their age. I ride the (A) on a regular basis, and in my eyes, (NYCT) has yet to get the worst remaining R-44s off the road.

They should also give ALL the R46 from the (F) to the (A)/©, R160s from the (R) back to the (F), and R160s from the (W) to the (R)

That makes no sense. Plus even if the A/C ran only R46s, there will still be a number of leftovers. Jamaica yard will never be 100% R160s.

I believe that it is good that the (MTA) is retiring all of the R44s by sending in more R46s from Jamaica yard, it not only saves more space but most of all it saves more money so that way the (MTA) dosen't need to order any more new cars yet.B)

Jamaica yard is only displacing trains no longer needed for the (V). It is just coincidence that they are using them to replace the R44s directly.

Objection. There is still the (G) train, what is there to supply it? Also the (W) fleet is most likely to be broken down and split between the (N) and the (Q). Besides you do need spares aside from the trains that are already assigned in case of break downs or extra service (put-ins). So nope.
