150 years ago, at 4:30am on April 12, 1861 the South opened fire on her own country and the Civil War officially began. For the next four years, we were the United States Of America and The Confederate States Of America.

Along the way there would be notable events such as Gettysburg, The Gettysburg Address, The Emancipation Proclamation, Appomattox, The Assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.

April 12, 2011 is the 150th anniversary of that major event in American history.

This year 2011 is also another anniversity for this. The birth of the Fox TV Network by media mogul Rupert Murdock. Mudrock brought out several Metromedia/former Dumont Network local stations in the US in April 1986 that includes WNEW-TV (now WNYW-DT Fox. 5 in NYC). Thus he founded the 4th 'national over the air network' which is stil around today.

Dumont was an oringal US Network along with NBC and CBS that went off the air by 1955.

The first show on the new Fox Network. The "Joan Rivers" Show. Fox did not begin 'regular prgramming' until January 1987 and full time 7-day a week prime time shows until around 1990.

This year 2011 already produced major events in history. 1st the end of power of Pres. Mubarak in Egypt after nearly 30 years of rule.

Second the possible start of anti government protests in the Middle East not seen since the overthrow of Communist block nations in 1988-89.

And closer to home, the brutal winter season of 2010-11 that produced record breaking snowfall in much of the US.

And more to come.

News corp has one single good aspect: The simpsons. Everything else is.. not good. They recently labeled iraq egypt on a map concerning the ongoing civil unrest in that country.

In a year filled with anniversities, another one upcoming at the end of the month is this.

On Feb. 25, 1986 'President for Life' Marcos the long time 'strongman' of the Phililippines fled the country in a coup following long time human rights abuses. Here the article below.

So is history repeating itself in Egypt with Mubarak in early 2011?

Today Friday March 4, 2011 as the world was focusing on end of the Gulf War, in the LA area Black Motorist (also a career criminal)Rodney King was beaten with excessive force by '4' White Police LAPD Officers.

What the world did not see was the beginning of the tape in which an intoxiced King was also physcially attacking the same officers.

The incident which got massive International media coverage raised questions mainly about race and police bruality. It would be a year later in late April 1992 that led to the infamous "Rodney King" LA riots after a state trial found the officers 'not gulity' of any of the charges.

From watching that infamous tape from beginning to end, only one officer whould have went to jail for 'excessive force." I place much of the blame of the later 1992 LA riots on LA stations such as KCBS-TV and KTLA/CH.5 (WPIX's LA sister station) for sensationlize the case.

So looking back March 1991 was an intresting historic month.

Today March 8, 2011 marks what ranks is probably the biggest event in history of Madison Square Garden and also probably, the most historic boxing match of the 20th Century, '2' legendary Heavyweight Boxing Champions met for the first time.

Ali vs. Frazier took place 40 years ago tonight. Not only it was a boxing match it has social, political and even racial aspects in this Vietnam War era fight as well. Not to mention it was the first fight with a huge "Close Circut" worldwide tv audience(the forerunner to today's Pay Per View)as well.

Below is clips of the 1st round of that historic fight. Also a history of why that match is histroric in both sports and US/World History as well.

One hundred years after Triangle Shirtwaist Fire, family, workers grieve and remember

BY Heidi Evans and Nicholas Hirshon

NY DAILY NEWS WRITERS

Friday, March 25th 2011

"New Yorkers whose ancestors died in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire will march with heavy hearts today in Greenwich Village to mark the 100th anniversary of one of the city's darkest days.

Family members of the blaze's 146 victims will join labor advocates for a solemn 11 a.m. procession from Union Square Park to the onetime factory at Washington Place and Greene St.

They will hoist bamboo poles with blouses and sashes bearing names of the lost, and lay carnations near the landmark building.

"It's a very emotional day of grieving and remembrance," said Anna Marie Landolfo, 56, of Hells Kitchen, whose great aunt Rosie Grasso died in the fire at age 16.

The 1911 blaze was the city's most deadly workplace disaster before 9/11, and spurred labor reforms. Mostly young female garment workers died in the fire.

Bruce Raynor of the union Workers United, which organized the procession, said the fire made "the public aware that workers, especially immigrant workers, were being treated as less than human."

Following the procession, the crowd will hear from speakers, including Mayor Bloomberg, U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis and actor Danny Glover.

Leigh Benin, 69, of East Flushing, Queens, said the ceremony still moves him, even though he was born decades after his cousin, Rose Oringer, died in the fire at age 19.

"People really do feel this very personally," Benin said. "It's either you don't know, don't care or you really feel it deeply. There's just no room in between."

The procession is just one of many commemorative events across the city today.

A play will be performed tonight two blocks from the former Triangle Shirtwaist Factory at Judson Memorial Church, where families grieved after the tragedy.

The Triangle Fire Open Archive plans to collect memorabilia at a 7 p.m. memorial at Cooper Union.

Cemeteries where victims are buried in Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island will also honor the dead with prayers and wreaths."
