TTC1700 Posted September 18, 2009 Share #1 Posted September 18, 2009 Just thought I'd create a thread for anyone to post any news or info regarding the TTC. Recent News: The order for 130 VII NG HEV's (1700-1829) was completed last week. Assembly is scheduled to start in October sometime for the 2010 order for 120 VII NG Diesel's. 3 cars of our Toronto Rocket's are complete and are currently being stored @ Bombardier's Kingston Test Facility.

TTC1700 Posted September 20, 2009 Author Share #5 Posted September 20, 2009 cool! any news on potential option orders to continue fleet replacement and expansion? None that I know of so far. But there's a TA in Europe potentially buying our H5's and H6's (262 cars), so that might get us going for an option.
TTC1700 Posted September 26, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted September 26, 2009 TTC revenue down, fare hike possible TTC fares could go up in 2010 as the transit service deals with a revenue shortfall this year. Even though ridership is up, more people are buying cheaper transferable Metropasses instead of paying full fares for each ride. The TTC is projecting a record "470 million plus" rides this year, according to the Toronto Star. But using the cheaper, transferrable pass is resulting in a loss of three cents a ride for the TTC, leaving them with a $17.4 million deficit, according to the newspaper. TTC chair Adam Giambrone says it’s too early to think about a fare hike, but Toronto budget chief Shelley Carroll says it’s a real possibility. Giambrone told the newspaper that the TTC needs an additional $80 million from the city in 2010 to help prevent a fare hike. http://www.cp24.com/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20090923/090923_TTC/20090923/?hub=CP24Home
EE Broadway Local Posted September 30, 2009 Share #7 Posted September 30, 2009 It's interesting that TTC starts Sunday service at 9:00am. The Yonge-University-Spadina is an interesting subway line.

EE Broadway Local Posted October 2, 2009 Share #9 Posted October 2, 2009 The shape makes the Yonge-University-Spadina subway line interesting. It serves central Toronto on Yonge Street then curves and serves west Toronto, crossing (and interchanging with) the Bloor Street subway line twice.

TTC1700 Posted November 20, 2009 Author Share #20 Posted November 20, 2009 Major Subway Delay inconveniences over 300,000 riders. A construction company was digging on top of a bridge that was directly on top of the subway tunnel. The company dug to deep and ended up exposing part of the subway tunnel. This caused a huge subway shutdown in between Eglinton and Bloor Stns from 2:30pm till 8:30pm. This is the busiest section of the subway line. Up to 80 buses were used on the subway shuttle. Every single bus type in the fleet (From the GM Fishbowls all the way through to the NG's) were used. Wait times to get onto a shuttle bus were upwards to 1h 30m.
TTC1700 Posted December 27, 2009 Author Share #21 Posted December 27, 2009 RECENT NEWS: The St Clair ROW opened up last weekend. The Inaugural Runs were done by PCC's 4500 and 4549. Here are some pictures from that day:
Zman Posted December 27, 2009 Share #22 Posted December 27, 2009 Nice pix. It's amazing how long the GM Fishbowls have lasted up in Toronto. The bus looks like it's in excellent condition!
Y2Julio Posted December 27, 2009 Share #23 Posted December 27, 2009 Man, Looks like I need to head up back to Toronto to catch those cars. Are they only doing it on a limited time basis? or are they going to run on that line until further notice?

TTC1700 Posted December 27, 2009 Author Share #25 Posted December 27, 2009 Nice pix. It's amazing how long the GM Fishbowls have lasted up in Toronto. The bus looks like it's in excellent condition! 52 Fishbowls have recently gone through a refurb program for them to last till 2011-2012 and to replace the Hybrids going out for Battery Replacement. After 2012, all the fishbowls must be gone due to all buses in Ontario having to be accessible or something like that. Man, Looks like I need to head up back to Toronto to catch those cars. Are they only doing it on a limited time basis? or are they going to run on that line until further notice? The PCC's were out on 512 only for the Inaugural Runs. The next time the PCC's are out is Late May. They'll be running every Sunday till Labour Day on 509 Harbourfront.
