First the M34SBS being a poor excuse of SBS, and now this?

S79SBS not having off-board fare collection? Wtf? Why are they even branding the service as SBS then? It's a waste of money advertising it when they can just convert the S79 to an full-time limited route with bus lane installations along the corridor that'll be shared by other transit buses as well.

I know, that seemed a bit too farfetched. I always knew that plan would be an epic fail the whole time. If I were the (MTA), I would probably implement an All Weekday Only Limited-Stop Variant of the S79LCL, the S99LTD. This bus would be running Monday-Friday 6:00 AM-8:00 PM making all Limited Stops in Staten Island between Fingerboard Road and Staten Island Mall, and some local stops in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

I don't see any problem with it. You have bus lanes and TSP, which the route should've gotten a long time ago, and I don't see a problem in providing faster service along Hylan Blvd by having the limited run 7 days a week.

To help me restore the S67, sign here. The route would be restructured to benefit more people, and you could be one of them. Let's make this sign a reality. Posted Image

When S79 +SBS starts I will be calling it the S79 Limited being that this is a poor excuse for +SBS. As far as i'm concerned off-board fare collection and three door artics are essential to the +SBS brand and no service without those should warrant it. Saying the demand isn't there for either which is the case with the S79 is essentially saying the route is unworthy of +SBS. Now we're going to have decorated S79 buses moving around where the only improvements are limited service and a bus lane. Horray to the MTA! <_<

Yeah, and those are noticable improvements. Would I prefer they not waste whatever money it costs to brand it +SBS+? Yes, but as long as the improvements occur, I don't care what they call it.

In a continuation of the ongoing effort to improve and upgrade bus travel throughout the City, the MTA will roll out Select Bus Service (SBS) along the S79 this September.
The route, which travels along Hylan Boulevard --- the busiest bus corridor on Staten Island --- carries 8,900 customers on an average weekday and serves as a major link between the Staten Island Mall and the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn.
SBS is a high-performance bus system incorporating the efficiency features of light-rail transit without the limitations and capital expense of a fixed-rail system. A resounding success along the three corridors where SBS is currently in operation, the introduction of SBS to Staten Island is expected to reduce travel times by 20 percent between the Staten Island Mall and Bay Ridge.
Designated bus lanes, traffic signal priority, fewer stops and easily identifiable low-floor buses will combine to create a substantial improvement in bus travel times. Like the other areas where SBS has been introduced, customers will benefit from improved service reliability and the improvements will also be shared by the users of other routes traveling along the corridor.
Unlike SBS in the Bronx and Manhattan, however, the S79 will not have off-board fare collection. A study of the route shows that boarding times are relatively short because boarding patterns are highly dispersed.
Along the route, S79 riders can connect with R train at 86th Street, in Brooklyn, the Staten Island Railway at the Eltingville Station and express and local buses at the Eltingville Transit Center.
While the S79 SBS will replace S79 local service, local service will continue to be provided on Richmond Avenue by the S59 and along Hylan Boulevard by the S78. http://mta.info/news...ries/?story=684

No off board collecting? Then SBS will not be special :(

When? The B52 doesn't even have a limited. Are you thinking of the B44?
