To be transferred back to ENY, they would have to have been transferred FROM ENY. As they never got transferred from ENY, they are not transferred back.

this set was on the , its a 10 car train that was on the , why would ENY sign a whole 10 car train up as , this was the 3rd set, they sent this back to ENY due to the 
having a few more trains on its line

All ACTIVE R42s are assigned to ENY, regardless of what line they are running on.

Assigned means that it is parked there when its done with its trips for the day. I dont think all the R42 trains are parked at ENY everyday...

Yard assignments have nothing to do with where they end up at the end of the day. In normal operations cars assigned to E180 end up parked at 239 and Livonia, Cars assigned to Jamaica and Concourse, end up parked at Coney Island, Cars assigned to Pitkin and 207 regularly end up at the other, cars assigned to Mosholu end up parked at Concourse and Livonia. The list goes on. In fact, Every single yard has cars assigned to it which will be laid up somewhere else many nights. Assignments have to do with maintenance. All R42s are based out of ENY as that is where they are maintained.
