The 7200s & 8500s were my favorite V CNGs....the rest of them just suck. Just curious as to when you shot that pic of 5981? There's always one guy that has a 5900 series on the Q8.

Gateway Mall end of the Q8 route.

All of the remaining 600s are at Stengel; they were at Yukon when new.

It's about time those 5900's 700's 8500's and 7200's are leaving. The MTA always maintained those differently than those 600's and that's why they had more problems.

Actually, it may be because their tanks are close to expiring in terms of the CNGs; the ones on the 700s, 7200s, and 8500s (as well as the 9900s 9932 and higher) have a 15-year certification if they are only NGV compliant. If any of the buses have NGV2-compliant tanks (the NGV2 standard came about in 1998), they are good for 20 years. I suspect that these buses have NGV first generation certification only (the C40LFs except for 801, whose tanks expired, should have NGV2 tanks). Bus 708 was sent to the shredder early last year because the tanks expired.

The new C40LFs coming in have tanks certified for 25 years, which should outlast the buses, although on tanks, they could go to 2035. If an agency wants to keep a CNG vehicle past the tank's expiration, the vehicle must be re-tanked.

As for the 5900s, the years of neglect under Green Lines caught up to them. That's also why the MTA is still running 17-year old ex-Bee Line buses.

The MTA would never run those New C40 buses until 2035 the latest I can see them in service is 2027-2028 the MTA thinks buses should be replaced after 15-16 years. So those older Orion v CNG's 1999 units can be in service until 2014 since they are only 13. Those 1998's are done at the end of this year they have turned into rust buckets 8500's suffered the worst is 8571 still in service.
