You shouldn't have to wait an hour for the B49

How does this happen? Do some trips just go MIA?
Basically, he's saying that on days with beach crowds, there's not enough time in the schedule, so B/Os keep falling further and further behind, and the result is that they have to cut some trips short or cancel some runs or something. Of course, if you have missing drivers, then the problem just gets worse.
Like I said on the article, it's a shame that during the summer, you have some routes (like some of the ones out here in SI) where students make up a large portion of the ridership, and they have too much running time, while meanwhile B/Os on other routes can't even make all of their scheduled trips during some times in the summer. They should really have a couple of different schedules (a summer schedule, a holiday schedule, a beach schedule on routes like the B1/49, etc)
I mean, whenever I see the S96 in the morning during the schoolyear, there's always fighting to get on and everything. Today, I saw one and it had a couple of standees, but it was far from crushloaded. And then there was one behind it with 1 person. I mean, during the school year, you're lucky if they run that extra bus, and yet they do it in the summer??

As for minutes vs miles, any conversion to minutes is highly inaccurate, just look at how long it takes to go 10 blocks in Downtown Brooklyn vs. Arthur Kill Rd S of Richmond Ave (unless they take the data from the bus's leader, which still might be inaccurate)

The biggest problem with the 49 is that we dont get enought running time coming from manhattan beach on the weekends. If you get hit with the beach crowd that messes up the whole trip both ways. Until mta adds more running time it will continue to be like that.
You've mentioned that before, but seriously, no bus for an hour??? Come on now! I told you a few Saturdays ago I waited over 30 minutes for a bus and there was supposed to be 3 buses in that time period. There is something fishy going on. I used to use the B49 years ago regularly when I lived back in Midwood and Sheepshead Bay and it was never like that. It isn't like the beach crowds just suddenly appeared. They've always been there.

What, do you think there's a conspiracy to mess up B49 service?
As far as I know, it's been like this my whole life, so that's at least 13 years since it ran well. The beach crowds never materialized out of nowhere, but Manhattan Beach has gotten more popular over the years...

I've been on lines that literally have been screwed over purposely to eliminate them and yes the
