Yeah they'll be calling 25-45 O/C eligibles over the next few months. But I must advise anyone who took this exam to not expect the list to move very fast or very far. When I got hired in 2006 they were calling new hires i classes of 20 every 2 weeks from July 2005 until August 2008. But back then there was a lot more booths and overall jobs. But I'd expect them to at least get to a list number 1500 before the list finally expires. But also remember people, the individuals who took the cleaner job in place of the agent job will have priority over the people that didn't. So I'd expect all those 45 jobs to go to them. But if any of you are lucky enough to be trained by me you'll be in good shape, because lots of old timers have developed really bad habits and you don't want to inherit any of them while being a probie.

It's official. I got the pre-employment letter today for sept 6. With only 3 mos left in my probation, really good rdo, and the best location, don't see accepting this too much.

Honestly I don't think you have a choice but to accept it. Since you took the CTA job in place until your name was reached for S/A, and you CTA title is non-civil service labor class, which you don't want to be under, especially with TA trying to get rid or cans on stations, which equals less cleaners needed. Plus since you're labor class means you don't qualify for any promotional exams either, and I assume you don't want to be a cleaner for the next 25 years. I know the agents who were laid off and brought back as CTA's, had to accept their old title back once their name was reached on the preferred list. Plus you'd be getting about a $6/hr raise off the bat, with another $1 coming after your anniversary date.

Wouldn't I have to start a new probation year? Since I'm not too far off from bring called for conductor thought I could just skip the agent title. I'll call HR this week and see what my options are.

No you wouldnt have to do another year of probation since you're currently working. For the C/R job you would since you'd have to resign from whatever title you're currently working. In any event good luck on whatever you decide. I had my chance to go C/R and passed it HP because personally I wasn't interested in the job. I've completed the transit certificate course and I'm waiting on my list number to be called for T/O.

Last year I was called for cleaner but got put on medical hold because I was 8 months pregnant at the time. After i had a baby i didnt go back because I just wasnt ready. Now I am and I feel like this was god's way of givig me a second chance. I just hope I get that phone call before the month is over so I dont have to take the drug test all over again and wait some more.

Hi Willbx, I am one of the many that took the job title cta and I have approx. 4 months prob left. After reading all the information on this page, I went and bought myself a chief to have a look at the list #'s again to see if my had changed. It hasn't... I'm still a bit confuse because you mentioned us ctas having priority over other individuals. How does this work ? Is the list accurate as dated ? I'm in the 600's ... Thanks in advance :)

Hi, I was checking my title and it stated: cleaner (transit-Labor Class), my concern is that you mentioned we are not allowed to take any promotional exams being under that title... I am currently doing the TCP course and preparing for the next promotional TO exam. My question is will i be able to take it or not ? thx again.

I am pretty sure that when we got called for station cleaner it said that whether you took the job or not it did not effect your position on the list. I will assume though that if you took cleaner, even though you are in the 600's you might have some precedence over someone who might be 145 if they didn't take cleaner

There's no medical guidelines for the title of S/A. When you come back it's just for final processing if your urine gets cleared.

Maybe so, maybe not. It's still civil service and it all goes by list numbers. All those people got called for CTA before you and turned it down, so their seniority doesn't get negated because of it. Since you're already an employee it may speed up processing, and your probation won't get started over.

Once you take the TCP course you can apply for any promotional exam, as long as you have the other minimum qualifications.

dealing with customers no matter what is a P.I.T.A. I deal with some pretty magnificent characters on a daily basis, both my customers and employees.

Dealing with them as a cleaner and an agent are two totally different aspects. Most customers won't give you problems, but there are some that are just impossible. Then you have the few that hate you just because they do. Example this older black woman at gun hull road on the 2 line hates all TA employees, and she stands on the side front window of the booth with hand written signs calling us a cult and evil and other choice words. And that's just one of the many weirdos out there. Plus the job can be highly stressful being responsible for thousands of dollars and the entire station as well. The job may look easy, but it ain't. But don't get me wrong at night you can get a lot of free time to study if you're in school or watch a couple of movies until the morning rush. But anyway goodluck to all those who were contacted, and maybe I'll get to train you on your Booth observation and takeover days while you're in S/A class.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi everyone, I got a Pre-employment letter, for the station agent, I have to go in October 4. I was surprised that I got called so quickly. My list number was in the 140's. I was thinking I wouldn't be called until around January.

Hopefully everything will go smoothly :-)

Congratulations! . Make sure you get all your previous work history for the past ten years if you have that much. You can obtain this from the social security office. If everything checks out you should be called back for final processing in two weeks to 30 days. After that it should take about another 2 weeks to be put in a class. Station Agent school is 30 days long and can be simple or hard depending on if you pay attention correctly. If everything goes smoothly you could be on the road by mid to late November. We are already doing the winter pick as I type this , so you'll be on the extra list until next July at least. Once you are working here do not pick up bad habits from the oldtimers at all. And avoid customer complaint because TA takes even the stupidest complaints serious. And always check your bills for authenticity, and don't let customers rush you into doing transactions, because any shortages will be coming outta your pocket. TA gives us no minimum acceptable shortages, even if it's $1, you have to pay it back. Anyway good luck with everything and maybe I'll be the agent responsible for training you on one of your days in the Booth during class.

Update: Just got the call for interview and final processing. She saids if all goes well I would be in the class that starts on Oct.22 So I have some questions so I can get my childcare situated. What are the hours and days usually for Station Agent school? Also I'm bad at interviews, they make me nervous. So any ideas on what kind of questions they will ask?
