Is 75ft still on the table? (Especially since they seem to be trying to reduce the number of new cars purchased. That's almost a 200 unit difference). This will be another 60fters order. That was their thinking in the 70s with the R44/46s. Less cars, less parts per consist. But then came the 90s when he following points made them go with 60fts for the immediate future: 75ft cars cause: Less doors per car=slower boarding times Car length excludes Eastern Division routes Excessive overhang causes safety Hazzard for passengers and crew regarding walking from car to car, whatever the situation. BUT......to quote Battlestar Galactica "This has all happened before and will happen again" If they're not looking to add more cars to the East, maybe this "next gen" design may be a 75 foot car with 5 double sliding doors per side??? Also, since the 90s, crossing from car to car has been prohibited, and with the change from married pairs to 4 and 5 car sets, a train built for the mainlines can't run out east anyway! It is easy to see why the cars designed in the 90s ended up as 60 feet long, but it is hard to see how much of that applies today. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Me personally, im glad if that's the case, I was disappointed back as an intern when I was told no more 75 ft cars. And it still fits SIR's 4car 300' consists with half that overnights. Wouldn't surprise me if they did that, it would allow for an even flow as opposed to people crowding by the doors on the R46/68s. Then we started discussing first whether team MTA would design a 75ft car again, or stick with a 60 ft. Then we discussed possible arrangements to counter the reasoning for the "no 75ft", given the fact that times have changed. What hearsay? No where at any point did we claim its gonna be this or that. They also said the wont order from New Flyer again, but if you look at what was provided the R211 will clearly be in four car sets, so either and trains are going to be shorter, or these will be 75 foot trains.
