New Jersey Transit - Random Thoughts Thread

I was wondering why we never had one of these... if we did and it got closed I'm sorry and feel free to close this one.

 

Anyway, I'll start. Took an Academy 139 run into Manhattan for the first time this morning, and damn they run the 139 much better than NJT. 8589 was a damn good bus too, shame they don't run too many 45 footers though since it was pretty packed and we were running alongside a MCI CNG and an older NJT D4500. The best part is the Academy B/Os (at least the one I had) will let you off in that drop-off area in the PABT where the 126 and a whole bunch of different routes will usually let you off instead of making you sit on the bus while it slowly makes its way to gate 320whatever. 

 

Also, it was signed up as "517 PORT AUTHORITY" for some reason. I've noticed that a lot of morning rush Academy 139 runs get signed up as "518 PORT AUTHORITY" and a few other strange things, yet their PM rush 139 runs always are signed up properly. Definitely gonna start taking Academy over NJT now when I take the 139 in during the AM rush, unless I want to ride like a Designline or CAT MCI or something.

I've seen those 517 codes before. Why they use those, I will never know.

 

 

Anyway here's my random thought.


I needed to pass the time after school on Tuesday, so I went over to Route 35 and caught:

 

6166- 817 Perth Amboy: The only thing running through my mind at this point was "Great, I get the bus with 6 three times in it's number <_<, oh whatever it's no big deal.

 

6161- 815 Woodbridge Ctr: That traffic on State Street really needs to have something done to make it better because it made my bus 10 minutes late. Lucky for me it wasn't as cold as it was last week.

 

When I was at the mall, I went to Woodbridge News to make change for the buses back, and instead of giving me change, the cashier gave me two tickets for zones 3 and 1. I was reluctant to take them at first because I didn't think I could use them, but I just took them anyway and had no problem from there on out.

 

6162- 815 Perth Amboy: When this bus pulled up, I kinda giggled a little bit because I just got off of 6161. I thought that since the bus was signed up as Perth Amboy, the driver would end on Smith St. but instead he ended the route somewhere down State St.

 

6155- 817 Campbell's Junction: I was supposed to get back to Matawan by 3:30, but for some strange reason this lady waited for like 7 minutes for an 815 bus who had some people she appeared to know (don't know if it was family or not) on board and she was waiting for them to meet her. When they got on the bus we kept going. Don't know why they didn't just get off and wait. I got back to Matawan by 4:00 because of the traffic on the Morgan Harbor bridge.

I did it for the Xcelsior at Quill that I can't find...

 

Actually I do it at least once a week lol. My schedule's a little flexible (and no I'm not in special ed thank you). Usually took NJT in a nice MCI CNG until I discovered today how much better Academy runs things...

 

It's out right now according to a friend of mine, back on the M42 again.

interesting. It appears you know much about local services you mind telling me how people use the 815? I don't want to propose a change to a route without understanding how riders use it.

No I've seen 519 going to the PA, the Wall Street runs are just signed up as "WALL STREET".

interesting. It appears you know much about local services you mind telling me how people use the 815? I don't want to propose a change to a route without understanding how riders use it.

Most people use it to get to the mall and downtown Perth Amboy. I can't tell you about New Brunswick-South Amboy though, you're gonna have to ride it yourself to find out.

actually, they were going to have a job fair for the 2013 season but it got cancelled because of the storm so seeing that isn't really a surprise. I woulda thought the 307 was more likely personally.

Quick question. There are bunch of NABI's parked by retired NOVA's by Meadowlands garage. Are they newly delivered buses or from meadowlands? 

Well depending if those Baby NABI's or regular NABI's they could new delivered ones or medowleands or both becuase i remember soneone took a photo with a bunch of babi nabis so who knows

Btw transitkid nice rendition of new replace of neoplan's becuase they are slowly showing age if anything i think they have to order more of those if the neo's retire becuase some of routes like 126 are need in the greenville gargage  because its packed every work day. Heck i could see one day on a 80 or 87 if given need be

Thanks man! I hope NJT replaces the Neo's with those too. They are starting to show their age, but when you look at them it's hard to see that. I don't know if it's just the Suburbans or Transits(whichever one) getting old or just poor maintenance that's making them the way they are, but if they're that torn apart then NJT should do something.

 

Today when I was driving to Bridgewater Commons (which is a great mall, BTW. You can take the 114 there from New York) I saw a DesignLine at what looked like an acceptance facility of some sort near Plainfield. I didn't catch the number, but I'm guessing it was 7203 since 7202 is at Howell.

Thanks man! I hope NJT replaces the Neo's with those too. They are starting to show their age, but when you look at them it's hard to see that. I don't know if it's just the Suburbans or Transits(whichever one) getting old or just poor maintenance that's making them the way they are, but if they're that torn apart then NJT should do something.
