Message added by +Young+

BUS OPERATOR #4600

List Status Update: 1/16/22 The list for this specific exam has been extended to January 6th, 2024.

Training: See the DOB New Hire FAQ topic for more information.

Next Scheduled Class: You will be scheduled with candidates of more recent Bus Operator exams (which are pinned), so check those threads for more information.

For those of you who wish to restore your name to the list, you must do so by sending an e-mail to certificationunit@dcas.nyc.gov. In your e-mail, state your full name, exam number, list number, the last four of your social security number, and a brief reason why you're restoring your name to the list. You don't have to go into full detail in the e-mail.

For those who will be reporting to Livingston Street in the future, click here for the pre-employment packet and click here or for extra pages of the CPD-B booklet (if you need them) for final processing.

Next, for those of you who are still waiting, you folks might want to check out this and this YouTube video. In addition, if you need help getting your Class B CLP (Commercial Learner's Permit), I would encourage you to check out cristcdl.com which is free!! Remember, the multiple-choice tests you need to take and pass, at minimum, are General Knowledge, Air Brakes and Passenger Endorsement.

Finally, if you need to make an appointment at the DMV to take the multiple-choice examinations for your Commercial Learner's Permit, click here.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. We're here to help each other.

Good luck!

Exam 4600 will be TA. So there will be 2 TA exams and 2 OA exams

Ok so that means that applicants are required to take OA exam even though its posted for TA. Also RTS do you know if those 2TA exams consist of a civil service exam reason i ask is to prepare.

I want to take this.

What does it mean when you guys say a civil service exam? Is it any different from the BOSS ?

According to http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcas/html/work/civilservice_1.shtml, a civil service exam is "is in place to help ensure that the hiring process is competitive and fair." (Refer to the site for more information, which is self-explanatory.) In other words, the civil service exam asks you questions about the job.

A BOSS (also known as a Bus Operator Selection Survey) is a mini-psychological exam, which selects Bus Operators based on your answers. They will have several statements in which you agree, disagree, or just neutral.

Below are some examples. The answers that the MTA are looking for, which will help you get hired, are in parenthesis. If you answer anything else, they may not look to hire you.

1) How comfortable are you speaking one-on-one to a stranger? (Comfortable)

2) Laws which prohibit radar detectors are unfair. (Disagree) [since you want to tell the MTA that you never speed]

3) In your opinion, how often is it acceptable to be a minute or two late for work? (Never)

4) How would you rate your ability to get along with others? (Very high)

5) I am often in a hurry. (Disagree) [keep in mind that the bus is on a timetable]

6) In the past year, how often have you been absent from work? (Less than 5 days) [Need to be reasonable]

7) How comfortable are you speaking one-on-one with your supervisor? (Comfortable) [since you do not make any mistakes]

8) The charge of a ticket is too high. (Disagree) [want to tell the MTA that you are a good driver & do NOT speed)

9) I get upset when people do not turn on red when it is legal to do so. (Neutral) [Again, the bus has a timetable]

10) The kind of supervision I like best is: (Fairly close supervision) [Again, you do not make any mistakes]

11) In a one year period, how many absences from work would you consider acceptable? (Less than 5 days) [Repeat of #6]

Get it? Feel free to PM me if necessary...

Yes I do.

After looking at several books in the past, to prepare for exam 2613, which I took in January, I would suggest "Bus Operator Exam", produced by Learning Press, copyright 1997. The ISBN number is 9781576850466. What I personally did was I borrowed this book from Queens Library, made index cards with all of the questions and then I returned the book for the next available patron. From looking online, I know the book can be a little high as far as the price, however, in my opinion, it is definitely worth it!!

what do you know about this book for those who have taken the B/O exam would you recommend it or do you frown upon it?

Would highly NOT recommend it. The questions in that book are so old, they are nothing like the B/O exam I took this past January nor the BOSS exam I took in late June...

In addition, keep in mind the phrase "What you pay for is what you get", right?

and what do you say about calling the civil service bookstore with their books or this one?
