The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, when the New York Marathon comes to town.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Start making plans now for a big traffic disruption next weekend.

The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, when the New York Marathon comes to town. The only ones permitted to cross during those hours will be those wearing running shoes and jogging across the span.

The upper level of the bridge will be completely closed starting at midnight, according to the MTA.

Motorists should plan to avoid the span or make arrangements to use other routes if they must travel to or from Brooklyn, Long Island or elsewhere.

Also the Bay Street and Lily Pond exits nearest to the bridge will be closed from 3 a.m. Sunday to 3 p.m., according to Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokeswoman Judie Glave.

More information can be found by calling 718-556-8010 or visiting the marathon's website at www.ingnycmarathon.org or the MTA's website at new.mta.info/bandt.

so i wonder what will they do about the buses that cross the bridge into SI? such as the 53 79 and any expresses that run on that sunday

The X1, X10, and X17 would use the Bayonne Bridge and the Holland Tunnel, missing any stops below Canal Street. The S53 would terminate at the South Beach terminal, and the S79 would probably run to St. George. The S51 and S52 also may be detoured via Hylan. For the X10, this may mean that a bus has to double back.
