R142/143 Strip Maps (Version 3.0)

People who follow me on BVEStation may know that I sometimes create strip maps for the routes available for BVE/openBVE. What you may not know is that I've been doing this off and on for about five years now. Come to think of it, it's probably one of my first Illustrator projects I did. My inspiration came from lilbluefoxie's strip maps way back in 2009. My first attempts at replicating this for other lines, both real and fictional, were hit and miss to be generous, especially since it was my first foray with vector graphics programs. I'd show you, but since I no longer have access to the POS desktop I created them on. My second attempt which, while better than the first, looking back on it today, looks a bit cartoonish. Take a look.

Note the small fonts for everything, the fugly-looking bullets. After a while, I decided to make them look a bit more realistic.

While the station/borough divider fonts are still small, the bullets look much better, don't they? I updated them again to fix that and other issues.

Ignore the fictional transfers.

The fonts are now legible from a distance (as they'd have to be if this were a real strip map found on a train). It even includes the "map not in use" cut out that you'd find on the trains.

I mention all of this because, once again, I've completely started from scratch. Call me a perfectionist, but like all of my work I do for here and BVEStation, I have to like it and if I don't, I will fix it. Eventually. (My perfectionist streak is always trumped by a lack of time. :D) Taking inspiration from this SubChat post, I've decided to go for an even more realistic approach for this new update.

While not an exact replica of the ones found on the 142s (besides the addition of the 2's local stops, my personal preference has the font mostly in Akzidenz Grotesk instead of Helvetica, among other minor details), the row of 64 total available stops, the location of the stops' "indicator lights" and everything else are all based on what one would find on an actual strip map on one of the trains and where they'd be in relation to everything else.

Please don't ask for specialized ones. I'm not taking requests for these right now. I may change my mind later on, but right now, I don't have the time for requests. However, I will be creating maps for other lines as I see fit, so stay tuned for more.

By the way, to those who have pending requests for signs and other miscellanea in the other thread here, I haven't forgotten about it. I've just been extremely busy with other things. That is all.

Can I save that (R) one?

If you mean the one I posted above, then sure, I don't care.

With all of this talk of bringing the B back on the West End, I decided to go retro with my next line map.

Broadway B (1986-'88) from Ditmars Blvd to Coney Island via Broadway Express, West End Express

Real retro.

(5) (Bowling Green to Wakefield-241 St) on the combined (2)(5) line map

I'm not sure about this one, but I decided to post it anyway. It's based on my earlier version with indicators for 7th Avenue and Lexington Avenue service, but it still looks too cluttered in my opinion with the transfers stacked on top of the station names.

(J) (Jamaica Center to Marcy Av)

Taking inspiration from the (7) line maps, I decided to include the indicators for the J and Z.

Can you make me a strip map of the former (1)/(9) skip-stop service with a service extension up to northern Riverdale and to make skip-stop service operate between 262nd-263rd Sts in The Bronx and 96th St in Manhattan? Here are the following stops of what the (1)/(9) lines should've been:

262nd-263rd Sts 1, 9
260th St 1
256th St 9
252nd St 1
246th St 9
Van Cortlandt Park-242nd St 1, 9
238th St 1
231st St 9

Marble Hill-225th St 1, 9                                                                   BRONX

Christopher St-Sheridan Square
Houston St

I'm hoping that you can pull this one off without a hitch. Thanks!

And we're back. Following the release of the 6-line for BVE, I've decided to make a few line maps for the route.

16479610753_8a4aeefb07_o.png

(6) - Pelham Bay Park to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall

<6> - Pelham Bay Park to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall

(6) - Parkchester to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall

You may notice some slight differences design-wise from the previous renditions. I suppose you can call this version 3.5 of the line maps. Also, I'm well aware they don't look exactly as they do on the actual trains. It's an intentional, stylistic decision.

Yeah, I'm bumping this...

Following a bit of inspiration and the fact that the 143s aren't exactly L-line exclusives these days, here's a new combined line map with the J/Z and L lines:

No requests at this time.

I would want a (G) Train strip map, from 71-Continental Av/Forest Hills, Queens to Church Av, Brooklyn via Local with some changes:

1. Keep the (M) Train transfer instead of the (V) Train.

2. Q53 SBS Transfer at Roosevelt and Woodhaven, Q52 SBS at Woodhaven. B44 SBS at Bedford-Nostrand.

3. Both (F) and <F> Train transfers at Roosevelt and Forest Hills.

4. Court Square transfer: (7) <7> (E) (M) LIRR.

Can you tell the MTA to please take your J/Z/L marker solution? Simple and elegant, of course they didn't think of it...
