It wasn't “car-mageddon.” In fact, the first weekday commute with the inbound Pulaski Skyway closed wasn’t much different from a normal Monday. School vacations and a holiday week helped keep traffic light, giving commuters a break from what looks to be a long haul for those who regularly use the 82-year-old span heading toward lower Manhattan.

What I don't get is why it takes $1 billion to fix it. For all that money, couldn't they just build a new one and then demolish the old bridge?

1 billion is cheap as that roadway had a major overhaul about 40 years ago to widen it The surface is shot but the support structure has to be repaired and I don't mean the beams holding it up but the beams holding the roadway. The exits and entrances have to be redesigned as they are the originals from 1920 when it was built. 50 or 60 years ago that road was the most deadly in the US for people being killed.

Truck route 1&9 is always a mess, no matter the day. With all the trucks plus the additional traffic from this should be a "fun" time. All i know is that i expect the 1 and 83 NJT routes to be delayed more than usual to/from Jersey City
