My first experience riding the X10

Recommended Posts

So today, I rode the X10 for the first time since I was born. I though it would be more of a smooth ride than I thought. I had some rocky first experiences before, with the B37 (waiting an hour for the damn thing to show up, lol). Anyways, I'd say this takes the cake (and the filling too). So, I had some matters to attend in Port Richmond, which made me travel a long distance from Fresh Meadows. My friends felt bad that I didn't have a car (I really don't have a need for it), so one of them drove me to the city (made a pit stop at the pizza place by the X10/X17 stop on Lexington). So, then they drove me to Madison Avenue and 45, the last stop before they would need to avoid all the further problems.

This shot was at Madison Avenue

I get on the X10 (pictured above), and start taking ridership statistics, to keep as records. The ride was smooth, I noticed it was a 102 since the seats were lower than typical.

Around Astor Place and Broadway (a bit north), we stop in the middle of the street. We didn't move for a while. I was wondering what the hell was happening. I suddenly see the driver arguing with someone, apparently outside the window. So, I looked outside the window, and this is what I see:

The bus is actually in it's own lane at this time. It wasn't moving lanes nor nothing. The taxi driver (at the far end of the picture), was most probably trying to cut off the bus, because their was a passenger in their (who got off). The driver told us that we had to get off. He called dispatch, or a supervisor, beforehand. We were there for a few minutes. The driver was carrying around the mirror in his hand, which broke off with the impact.

The damage, is the small dent in one of the compartment areas, at the bottom.

The guy had to pull the bus from service

I went to wait for the X10 at the stop (two blocks away).

I was kinda hungry (I was gonna wait until getting to St George on the return, but I wanted to eat something. Grabbed me some fries (couldn't even finish it all). The bus to arrive at 12:50 PM was MIA, which meant the 1:20 PM would be the one I would end up taking. The bus arrived, but not before the original bus left, apparently to the depot. The driver wouldn't almost believe me , because he thought that I was lying. I would not put in my metrocard (even though he says it as a transfer), because it's not useful for the same route. Got off the stop before the last, blah blah blah. I called my friends to pick me up by Woodhaven Blvd.

On the way to Port Richmond:

I took the ferry, since I didn't have $6.00 any of the three cards with me (although all combined, were $11).

I took the ferry back, and these are the three shots that cam out the best

Sucks that happened to you. Those yellow cabs never learn their dam lesson that's why the express buses treat them how they do. That x10 is not a personal favorite of mine and never will be but those drivers got it tough in manhattan dealing with the traffic...other cars and buses but especially those yellow rat bastards ugh they're ridiculous! Hopefully next express line you ride you'll get a better experience.

I had the same thing happen on the QM5 once...a van lost its side view mirror on the side of the bus and the driver came banging angrily on the door. The B/O said "we can call the dispatcher and the cops, but then if you leave before they get here,  you'll be charged with leaving the scene of an accident." The van driver luckily decided not to call and just leave. It was one of those generic Ford vans with mirrors that probably cost $50 or something.

Eh, the X10 is kinda seperate from the rest of the network (save rush hours when you have the other north shore expresses.

What was that guy doing signed up as an X14 to West Midtown? Must've been deadheading towards the city...

Does it really matter? I'm still surprised you haven't noticed something else.

Yeah, happens a lot (a lot more than expected).
