BZGuy Posted August 20, 2014 Share #2 Posted August 20, 2014 I saw 7278 in person for the first time this morning. You guys take great pics but they don't do that bus any justice! She looks great.......even with the new headlights! I will say they do need to put the big logo on the front of that bus but otherwise it looks like a great bus!
DaTransitMan4608 Posted August 20, 2014 Share #3 Posted August 20, 2014 Some interior pics I took of 7278 the other day. Loving the new reading lights and A/C vents

Wonder why they would not start where the designlines left off 7215 or so ?
46Dover Posted August 21, 2014 Share #5 Posted August 21, 2014 What is sitting/standing capacity on this bus. BZGuy brought to my attention that the older CNGs were supposed to stand 2?

These are also at 2 Standees. Seating is pretty much the same as the rest of the D4500s/CLs/CTs
DaTransitMan4608 Posted August 26, 2014 Share #7 Posted August 26, 2014 (edited) I wonder if 7254 and co. will begin to arrive towards the beginning of September. The pilot arrived on time so the rest of the order should be on time as well. Edited August 26, 2014 by Transitkid4608

It won't be so soon, I would say October-November they should be coming in, but things can change.
DaTransitMan4608 Posted August 29, 2014 Share #9 Posted August 29, 2014 7278 is currently on the 133. Just saw it on the parkway. Guess they're already testing it on the non-Route 9 lines, which means either the 68, 131, 135, 137 or 138 is next.
DaTransitMan4608 Posted September 10, 2014 Share #10 Posted September 10, 2014 Finally got to see what 7278 does on the highway. The ride was really smooth and comfortable. The ISL-G was silent but audible, and it was putting in work too. I saw an MCI without logos at the Cummins facility up in Kearny. It might be another CNG (Probably 7254).

Fan Railer Posted September 25, 2014 Share #15 Posted September 25, 2014 Never thought I'd see the day when NJT would start to experiment with those CTHs. I wonder if they'll really save enough fuel to be worth the extra investment. Only time will tell.

Well, they already have D4000Hs, so it was only a matter of time before they decided to try out some Hybrid CTs.
553 Bridgeton Posted September 25, 2014 Share #17 Posted September 25, 2014 Well, they already have D4000Hs, so it was only a matter of time before they decided to try out some Hybrid CTs. They only run during rush hour. Now they have these; will run 24/7. These will push our 40s out along with some extra 45s that will come from howell.
BZGuy Posted September 25, 2014 Share #18 Posted September 25, 2014 The only reason why the D4000Hs are rush hour only is because their reliability is crap. There was one out late a couple days ago on the 116 but that is very rare.

Electric hybrid is a one shot deal no converting back lol.

I saw 4004 and 4006 out on the 114 and 116 on Monday on MyBus.

Cait Sith Posted September 29, 2014 Author Share #22 Posted September 29, 2014 3500-3605 bus numbers for the new D4500CTH.....? It's 37-47 buses and they'll be direct replacements of several D4000s. Makes me wonder about the numbers also.
553 Bridgeton Posted September 29, 2014 Share #23 Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) Heard from the foreman at eht there leaving that block of numbers open after the possible 47 for up to 105 buses after the option of that extra 10. 7401-7418; 7501,7505 are the first to go. Demo should be here jan-feb. That demo will make or break the use of these hybrids, as these will be the first to be used in a 24/7 operation around the clock. Imo hybrids are not feasible for the workhorse of nj transit, i can see city buses but mcis noooo. Hell those novas hybrids that were at hamilton were problematic, i cant speak too much on 4004-4007. 553 Bridgeton Posted September 29, 2014 Share #25 Posted September 29, 2014 (edited) That's if NJT doesn't start cutting 55x service overnight because of casino colosuresThere not cutting service, not everyone worked at the casinos. I thought ridership would have dropped on these routes but they havent. These 45fters are coming because of crowding issues on the 552/3/9. If they cut runs 1 through 10 on the 553/9 it wont be pretty; the 11th 553 is already on the rd by 409am. 1/552 keeps ppl going to wildwood. Goes to cape may and deadheads back to ac then goes back to cape may. Edited September 29, 2014 by 553 Bridgeton
