CRUISER BUS REPLACEMENT

Project Scope:

The new cruiser buses will replace buses manufactured from 2000 to 2003 over a five year period.  The new buses will be a mix of 40 foot and 45 foot over-the-road coaches. Additionally, some of the new buses will replace those purchased in late 2006.

Schedule:

This is going to be a pretty major order, considering it covers some 1400 MCI buses or so. What would you like to see as powertrain in these new buses (considering we only have 2 real choices if NJT goes for MCI again)?

ARTICULATED BUS REPLACEMENT

Project Scope:

Replace 36 suburban and 49 transit-style articulated buses.

It'll be interesting to see who gets this order, but I'm really hoping we'll see some NJT XD60s.

For the MCIs, I wouldn't mind them having Cummins ISLs again, as long as they have good Jakes.

I'm personally hoping for NJT XD60s too, but knowing NJTs financial situation, they may get Novas to replace the artics.

IIRC, the ISL9 doesn't come with Jakes (compression variant), but instead comes with an jake exhaust brake. The ISX12 would come with the compression brake...

And lol, novas are ugly as hell XP imo...

If they're going by financial problems, New Flyer would be the shoe-in as they are overall cheaper(even in quality, which is evident in our current XD40s).

I hope they have different number groups for the 40ft and 45ft. Not mixed in together like now.

So they will be getting 40' coaches after all.  I heard that Market Street will be getting 45'ers sometime next year...  Oradell may be able to store some outside but getting them into the fuel lanes would be the bitch of bitches.

Market Street already has two for some reason, 9018 and 8309.

I thought I heard NJT was going to start standardizing 45 foot buses....

There must be some routes / facilities that can't safely utilize 45 footers for turn clearance reasons. I definitely think that the balance between 45' and 40' buses will be shifting over towards having more 45' than 40', since it is currently the other way around.

It's not gonna be the same when these new cruisers come in. I'm planning on going out of NJ for college and I'm worried when I come back to visit, I won't get to hear that rumble the DD50s on the current MCIs have.

I'm hoping NJT doesn't make this order to be a bunch of 7278 clones either. Let's hope they put some variety in these buses.
