Novabus 5000 Posted September 2, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 2, 2014 Yes. 4968-4977 are at west Farms. It is rumored that they are only there till the end of the pick. However, it is unknown how true that is.

GojiMet86 Posted September 5, 2014 Share #8 Posted September 5, 2014 I have to get there myself one of these days. Are they for rush hour use only? #4976 (?) is still out there on the Bx33. And those Bx33/Bx36 photos I took were around 11 to 12.
East New York Posted September 6, 2014 Share #9 Posted September 6, 2014 Likely until the new pick. If the Bx32 or 33 has runs out of MCH then buses will be freed up. However, WF will indeed get new buses starting at the end of next year and/or early 2016.

Orion VII 7561-7684 turn 12 next year. (14 for 7560) The average life for a normal bus is 12 years.

I mean yes, the average is 12 years, but when was the last time we actually followed that? -The old C40s lasted almost 15 years -The 8000-series RTS survived 20 years -The Orion V CNGs ordered for themselves went for 15 years -Even the overhauled GMC RTSs lasted 24 years The only ones to actually come that close to the "average" lifespan which were the Vikings (only 11) and the orion VIs (7 years). I believe the Orion VII OG's have had an unusually high maintenance cost from the batteries constantly dying due to unexpectedly high speed usage on a lot of routes (who would have ever thought that would be a problem lol). I think these buses were made before the battery technology was well tested. So, it makes sense that the MTA would want to dump them before the costs get too high

Indeed. What about our diesel Orion 5s there 15 years old now ans are all in the 500-600k mileage range

True, but the RTS takes 20 years because they are in a better condition than the Orion. Now that I think about it, almost every other MTA bus ordered usually take 15 years to retire. lupojohn Posted September 15, 2014 Share #23 Posted September 15, 2014 Got the 6, 8, 11, 17 and 35 so far. 4968 was on the 46, but the driver took it out of service before I could get the shot.
paulrivera Posted September 15, 2014 Share #24 Posted September 15, 2014 I saw a couple of RTS's on the Bx6 and they do look good considering their age. I hope they hold on to one of the "newer" RTS's (preferably the last one) in addition to 1201.
