Jetmech Posted September 16, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 16, 2014 New here. I'm curious what the difference is between the two titles? The salary is higher for the Maintenance Supervisor (Surface) yet their scope is virtually similar to the MTA Bus Maintenance Supervisor? Thanks in advance! mcody014 Posted September 17, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 17, 2014 mta bus maintenance supervisor is for the "MTA bus company and maintenance supervisor surface is for either "MABSTOA" or "NYCT" its just different sectors within the company
Jetmech Posted September 17, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted September 17, 2014 Thank you for the info! So I guess my next question is why the difference in saleries considering its the same responsibilities?
Blitz Posted September 19, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 19, 2014 Thank you for the info! So I guess my next question is why the difference in saleries considering its the same responsibilities? Everyone in MTA Bus gets paid less than NYCT/MaBSTOA. with MTA Bus being comprised of the former private lines, they are not fully integrated in to the NYCTA. This is probably why they get paid less while doing the same job.
MtaBusQns Posted November 23, 2014 Share #5 Posted November 23, 2014 How does the work conditions n treatment differ from NYCT & MTA Bus?
Blitz Posted November 24, 2014 Share #6 Posted November 24, 2014 How does the work conditions n treatment differ from NYCT & MTA Bus?Treatment and work conditions are much more harsh at MTAB, mostly because there are a large amount of new employees at MTAB. Line supervisors get away with more at MTAB because the new guy don't know any better

There are some good workers at MTAB. There are a number of B/O's that I know out of Yonkers (some young guys and some in between) that do a great job and continue to move up the ladder as the knuckleheads are weeded out. Via Garibaldi 8 Posted November 24, 2014 Share #9 Posted November 24, 2014 Is Yonkers still closing down? The last I heard was that they've allowed the depot to remain open as they prepare the space for building new development. The area was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy and so they can't build anything there until they address the flooding issues. The city of Yonkers wants to use the land to build condos or co-ops or something of the sort given the areas closeness to the waterfront. The other problem apparently is that the wants Yonkers to build another depot before agreeing to move anywhere else. It's either that or I've heard that maybe Yonkers Depot will be absorbed into Eastchester, but I have to wonder if there is enough room for that... Isn't Yonkers basically a "runoff" depot to Eastchester anyway?
Via Garibaldi 8 Posted November 24, 2014 Share #11 Posted November 24, 2014 Isn't Yonkers basically a "runoff" depot to Eastchester anyway? Uh no... What gave you that impression? Yonkers was the old Liberty Lines private bus company.

1995 Orion V CNG Posted November 24, 2014 Share #13 Posted November 24, 2014 I always just assumed that since Yonkers is a small depot, it was a runoff for eastchester, but then remembered that both belonged to 2 different TAs back than.

For what its worth both have pretty good maintenance (probably the best maintenance in the entire system). Yonkers from what I've been told hand washes their buses. Both depots have buses that are starting to get up there age-wise and you can see some dings on some buses, but I imagine those buses are due for an overhaul pretty soon. Most of the ones that I've seen with dings (i.e. 3068, 3088 out of Yonkers) are at least 8 years old. 3068 has parts of the roof sunken in on the right side, and 3088 has part of the grill or whatever that's called missing. I get the impression that Yonkers does inspections inside of the bus too, so that if a B/O writes up something (i.e. broken head rest) it is fixed and done professionally if I may add. Eastchester has a bigger fleet, and considering that I would say that they do a decent job, but I would rate Yonkers higher. I find Yonkers express buses to be cleaner overall than Eastchester's express buses. I use the BxM10 and some of those early runs on weekends have dirty buses (not filthy, but they have newspapers or papers all about or empty packages). They are in talks with MCI to provide new components and possibly new engines as well (don't quote me on the last part though). This is more ENY's territory, so I'll leave the details for him. That would make sense... Some B/O's have complained about the older buses and them not holding up as well on the road. They don't breakdown, but sometimes on some buses you can feel that the shocks aren't that great or the age of the bus from wear and tear is starting to show despite the good maintenance. NYC has some of the worst roads around, particularly Manhattan. Most of the roads in Riverdale have been repaved in the last few years, including my block, which looked like most of Park Avenue does these days.... A third world country... The road is literally crumbling in parts from the 50s on down.
