A Nassau County bus smashed into a Papa John's Pizza after it vaulted the curb in Queens early Saturday, witnesses said. The bus was heading west down Francis Lewis Blvd. in Hollis near 90th Ave. when it suddenly swerved right, jumping the curb and crashing through the pizza joint's entrance around 1:25 a.m., Shah Ahmed, the restaurant's manager said. Ahmed, 35, said he was getting ready to close shop when the bus came flying through the take-out station. "I was inside cleaning when suddenly I heard the sound like a bomb blasting," Ahmed said. "My take-out station is gone."

For all we know, that bike could have also been just tied to a pole or something similar.

How? Francis Lewis around Queens Village is a straight road. There's no way that the bus driver would suddenly swerve right unless he was trying to avoid hitting something.

That manager is pretty dumb.  Is he the owner of the place too? I had just lost my business or my livelihood, I would not standing there posing in front of the scene as if it was totally cool, not unless he stands to gain something from the "unfortunate incident".  <_<

What does he care, he's just the manager. It's not like the restaurant is closing or he needs to pay for the repairs.

Well that's what I'm wondering about.  The store has to shut down to undergo repairs, so either he's out of a paycheck if he's just the manager or maybe he'll be reassigned.  I would assume the later with that big smurk on his face.  Sometimes with those small franchise operations, the manager can be more than just the manager.

Lol. I've seen some places operate out of a rear entrance or whatever during renovations, might not be a total loss. My guess is he will still get paid one way or the other.

Updates.

A Nassau County bus struck and injured a 22-year-old bicyclist who rode through a red light in southeast Queens early Saturday morning, before the vehicle crashed into a Papa John's pizza restaurant, the NYPD said.

The N6 Nassau Inter-County Express bus was traveling north on Francis Lewis Boulevard in Queens Village through a green light shortly before 1:30 a.m. when it swerved unsuccessfully to avoid a bicyclist who was traveling westbound on 90th Avenue, police said.

The bus then crashed through the front door of the pizza chain, which was closed at the time.

The bicyclist, who was not identified by police, was taken to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset and treated for a broken jaw, injured wrist and ribs and a possible collapsed lung.

A preliminary investigation by the bus company indicated the bicyclist was on his cellphone at the time of the crash, according to NICE spokesman Andy Kraus. The NYPD could not confirm that detail.

The three passengers on the bus, as well as the driver, were also treated at North Shore for minor injuries.

In addition to hating taxi can drivers, I despise bicyclists as well. When I used to drive for Access A Ride, I was in Brooklyn going up Ashland Pl and when I got to DeKalb Ave, I came up to an intersection (with a green light) and these two kids came flying across DeKalb right in front of me on their bikes. Had to slam on the brakes just to stop from hitting them. Pair of real geniuses. Now what do you suppose would've happened if I did hit them?

Thank god it was only a Papa Johns!   :D

If he was the franchisee he's probably thanking whoever he prays to that the insurance money is going to bail out his poor decision of buying a Papa johns...  :D

Nah, they'll just have him work somewhere else for the time being.  I don't know about their company structure or the need but he could always be used to cover vacations...

Or he could go to work for NICE.

Oh no, it has to be the Orion VII NG with NICE paint scheme. Looks like money is needed for repairs and repainting. I bet if that was a Orion V CNG, they should not bother to repair it since all the Orion V CNG from NICE are near retirement and replacement stages. They will be like "screw that, the bus is already in the retirement stage anyways."

NICE needs buses so if it can be repaired for a reasonable rate, assuming repairs wouldn't = or exceed the value of the bus the bus they may repair it.   Although NICE wasn't at fault I wonder if their insurance will pay for the repairs?  NICE could sue the bicyclist and get a judgment but unless he's well off they'll probably never recover the money for this.

On a side note, I wonder who will be on the hook to repair the store? NICE's insurance or Domino's insurance?  Sucks for both of them, thousands and thousands lost because of one idiot!

NYC needs a bicyclist license, cause an accident like this and it's revoked!
