Good morning, I'm new to the forums but wanted to find out some info on transit truck (class A) drivers. Are there any track haulers or stockroom drivers here that can give me some insight on getting into the right division. I may be coming in as a B/O but would want to switch if possible. Thanks in advance

(NOTE: I am NOT a NYC Transit employee, just sharing my thoughts)

First of all, from my knowledge, you are talking about 2 completely different departments - Department of Buses and Track Department. As far as my knowledge is concerned, I have never heard of an employee working in both the Bus & Track Departments.

If you briefly look at other some pictures in various Flickr albums, such as https://www.flickr.com/photos/mtaphotos/sets/72157645032234177/ and https://www.flickr.com/photos/mtaphotos/sets/72157631270991306/, it seems that these tractor trailers are primarily used by the Track Department. Therefore, my educated guess is that getting into the Track Department is what you are looking for.

Even if you look at https://www.flickr.com/photos/mtaphotos/sets/72157631949862962/ and https://www.flickr.com/photos/mtaphotos/sets/72157642604096834/, I highly doubt the drivers of those trucks are from the Department of Buses.

Any truck related to Track department. Wether it's used for a work gang like a lift truck, Box truck, etc or a flat bed trailer used to transport track panels (pre-fab track) is a pick job within Track dept.based on seniority.

Track men will pick those jobs within Track, have 30 days to meet the requirements for a CDL and if they pass are now the assigned drivers for the type of vehicle they pick. Some pick pay loaders, grade alls, back hoes, etc.

There is a department called Fleet Ops that some trackmen would transfer to whereas their sole job is driving flatbeds to and from panel jobs or other transport material as needed.
