553 Bridgeton Posted September 26, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 26, 2014 Lately all thats been coming from the drive cam is nothing but to hurt us operators. Ive been called into the office for setting off the camera. Now every bus i get the sensitivty to it is different. Its getting to the point where you really dont know how to drive a bus properly. Something needs to be done because the union is not doing anything about it. These cameras should not be pointed at your face. If they are there for passenger problems then why is it rigged to look directly in my face? Yesterday i purposely set the camera off and as it was no surprise was called into the office. I said i was testing the brakes, its apart of the pre-trip, and transit comes up with some bullshit thats not even in the rule book.

Orion VII 4 Life Posted September 26, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 26, 2014 What triggers the camera? Like if you're going over the speed limit it takes a picture of you?
46Dover Posted September 27, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 27, 2014 Well it's like you said about making sudden braking actions. They have them for Saddle River buses. My dispatcher forgot to tell me that one of our Prevosts has a special kind of transmission (ZF I believe) which made acceleration feel different than usual. Also the brakes stopped sooner than I liked, which resulted in the green light on the camera going red. It's supposed to see everything inside and out before 4 minutes of the "offending" action
Orion VII 4 Life Posted September 27, 2014 Share #5 Posted September 27, 2014 Sounds like sophisticated sh*t. I'm surprised the MTA opted for a simple security camera setup instead of this DriveCam.
553 Bridgeton Posted September 27, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted September 27, 2014 Hard braking, hitting bumps, and going around bends. It records a 20 second video before and after the camera is triggered. Transit says they use it to stop fake passenger suits but thats not the case cause it points at a angle to where its in your face showing your reaction to such events, to see how fast your going, shows the g-forces. Ive triggered that camera in events where fights occurred and they dont use that video but as soon as its activated its thrown down your face. go25 Posted September 27, 2014 Share #7 Posted September 27, 2014 Makes you wonder when Big Tree got them cameras first, pre CRAPI days, if the operators were thinking the same thing.
mfs NJT459 Posted October 1, 2014 Share #8 Posted October 1, 2014 SEPTA has a better camera system, even higher ops show the media near hit-run collision misses and many angles too instead of the front and back
Silk City Transit Posted October 1, 2014 Share #9 Posted October 1, 2014 Wow, I've never got called into the office for setting it off. Maybe each garage is different, but like you said, some cameras are way more sensitive than others. I've set it off by braking hard for a yellow light, avoiding hitting some a$$hat that made a right turn from my left right in front of me, stuff like that. A couple of times, I don't even KNOW what set it off - I started off from the garage with the light green, driving along normally, next thing I know I look up and the son of a bitch is red... 553 Bridgeton Posted October 1, 2014 Author Share #10 Posted October 1, 2014 My garage calls us in every time the sucker goes off if it looks suspect. Lol i was charged for poor driving when some kid ran across the street at the last min. Supervisor said "i should have seen that" I busted out laughing and said "so now I'm supposed to turn into wizard and predict that. Yes your suppose to look ahead but an idiot will always been an idiot.
Silk City Transit Posted April 20, 2015 Share #11 Posted April 20, 2015 Got another "mystery red" today... Happened while deadheading back to the garage after my run. Camera was green all damn day long. I just happened to glance up and notice it red a few blocks before the garage. No hard braking or anything.
