Excellent! That bottleneck by exit 8 sucks. The new lanes are already open actually,  I used the turnpike last month and the new lanes were open and the existing lanes were being refurbished. So this is when all lanes will be open. But whats taking so long with the with the I-95 connection in PA?

I remember seeing the extension, for about 30 miles, from the 70's mile mark area to the 40's where the exit is, three years ago; last time I visited VA. It was like in '87, they had extended it that far.

Now, this conencts to I276, which heads across to Pennsylvania, where the I95 is. What other connection is to be made in that area? (95 is funny, and incomplete. It runs down the Turnpike to a certain point, but then jumps over to the beltway around Trenton, and enters PA from there. It really should just go straight down the Turnpike to Delaware, but it looks like they diverted it just so PA could have a piece of it. Just like they took the I99 designation, and moved it totally outr of sequence and alignment!)

The exit for Interstate 276 is Exit 6 off the New Jersey Turnpike.

As for the reason that I 95 ending north of Trenton and the gap between the two 95s....

There was supposed to be a connection from where I 95 and I 295 met and 95 was to continue north through Somerset County to I 287, travel east, and get back on the turnpike (Exit 10).

However, due to opposition from Somerset County, the planned highway was never completed. Then too, the New Jersey Turnpike Authority of that time was opposed to it as well citing that no one would use the toll road since I 95 would be a freeway from New Castle Delaware, through Wilmington, Philadelphia and into New Jersey.

Finally I-95 can not be designated on the NJ Turnpike from the split from I 295 after the Delaware Memorial because from there to exit 6, the highway and exit ramps are not to Interstate highway standards (same reason why I 495 from Turnpike to the Lincoln Tunnel was changed to NJ 495)

If people want to do the full 95 route, stay on 295, go to exit 60 (195 east) and get on the turnpike at exit 6

I'd agree I'd use I-95 instead of the turnpike if possible. I've already tried Rt1, but NJTP is usually faster. As for the "Interstate standards" how does NYC's highways like the BQE maintain its designation?

that's I-278. I believe the story behind that is for this highway, it was supposed to start way out in Springfield Township, NJ around the route 24/I-78 junction was, go through Union, Roselike, and Elizabeth before meeting the Goethals to go to Staten Island, however it was struck down by those local residents who wanted no part of that highway.

I-78 if anyone remembers used to be the Nassau Expressway near JFK. I heard it was actually supposed to cut through Bushwick and cross either the Williamsburg or the Manhattan via an expressway in Manhattan, again, a project either underfunded or met with opposition

It was I-878. If it's a 3-digit Interstate, it's a spur either thru or around an area.
