RailRunRob Posted October 28, 2014 Share #1 Posted October 28, 2014 Took the to Pelham Parkway (Dyre) today and I noticed two things the 1st was construction of a major structure south of the Morris Park stations and switches and second was the extension of the north bound express tracks into and beyond the Pelham Parkway seems like it's almost to the tunnel portal going towards Gunhill. Anyone know if there going to extend trackage all the way to Dyre? and if so why? R3

They readded the southbound express track around the late 1990s or early 2000's in order to do subway car tests. As far as I know, there are no plans to revive the Northbound Express track at this time.

The track used to end just south of the station. Now it's four track.

Maybe so.. Havnt been that way in ages. just saw work trains and tracks sections on flatbeds. I do remember a year or two ago the tracks ending just shy of the PP Station the tracks now extend to the Mace ave tunnel portal. I might have to go that way again. ill check it out in more detail. S78 via Hylan Posted November 2, 2014 Share #11 Posted November 2, 2014 That would explain the many weekend and late night G.Os of no service north of East 180th.

GreeneggsnPelham Posted November 4, 2014 Share #13 Posted November 4, 2014 It is said in Peter Dougherty's "Tracks of the NYC Subway", that the Dyre express tracks are being used for CBTC testing. This could possibly be for a future IRT line. Maybe the initial testing for the is going to be here before working on the middle express track? -A

There is also CBTC on the Culver express tracks
GreeneggsnPelham Posted November 5, 2014 Share #15 Posted November 5, 2014 Oh, yeah. I'm sorry I wasn't clear enough---I did mean that the testing on the Dyre express track could be for a future CBTC-capable IRT line (Like if they gave it to the West Side IRT or something). -A P.S. I didn't know they were testing on the Culver express. Perhaps they should utilize the West End express too?
RailRunRob Posted November 29, 2014 Author Share #16 Posted November 29, 2014 Hate to beat a dead horse. Got a chance to ride in Old W&B territory again. 3rd rail is installed on the Northbound track. Y4? All the way to the tunnel portal. I also noticed they cleared and flattened the trackbed beyond the end of the rails. Seems like they installed some type of wiring under this could be for the CBTC? it would seem maybe there going to extend trackage atop and almost to Baychester Ave for CBTC testing? Could also be just upgrading the general signal system for the Dyre Ave Line remains to be seen? Here's some photo's. @ Pelham Pway and GH http://i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag405/ace925/1EEFF672-39A5-4379-9829-1C5E315A67BA_zpsxayjtulk.jpg~original http://i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag405/ace925/04275ADB-8591-4235-B687-D8AC5E2B6E2F_zpspkww1so2.jpg~original http://i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag405/ace925/765D2761-1AF2-45B3-A2BA-490DCD4958F5_zpse5txug00.jpg~original http://i1374.photobucket.com/albums/ag405/ace925/C840D3B4-A8F4-4BD7-B74B-45A592068D22_zpss1aiwz47.jpg~original
2 Train Master Posted November 29, 2014 Share #17 Posted November 29, 2014 I would imagine with the new tracks that they will be used for regular service often as(everyday) which may cause the to bypass certain stops. I mean the Dyre stations aren't the greatest looking. Aside from testing also, theres other places IRT trains get tested such as the Rockaways, Sea Beach, Culver, West End etc.

Nothing would really change since Dyre Avenue isn't actually an express line anymore.
