Jsunflyguy Posted October 30, 2014 Share #1 Posted October 30, 2014 What sort of Transit Planning Metrics or justification does transit use for placing stops in quick succession? On the Q111 by Baisley Depot there are THREE stops between Guy Brewer/Linden and Bedell street. One city block distance, but three stops, surely this could be streamlined.`

Via Garibaldi 8 Posted October 30, 2014 Share #4 Posted October 30, 2014 MTA does not control bus stop placement. Your problem is with the DOT especially with former private line routes So the route planners only decide on the direction of the actual route and not how many stops a bus has in between blocks? I get that the DOT decides on the actual placement, but I've noticed this on a few local bus routes. The M1 has this nonsense too along Madison. A bus stop every block is ridiculous, especially if there aren't any geographic issues at play and the blocks are relatively short. If you had a bus stop every half block, you would have people ringing for each stop. God forbid anyone has to walk. That's why I'm in favor of SBS service because it keeps moving faster with fewer stops.
NewFlyer 230 Posted October 30, 2014 Share #5 Posted October 30, 2014 There are many routes that have that problem with placement. The B31 sort of has this issue with stops too close. It is not a problem when the stops are not used as much but it can be a big problem when they are both used and literally a short distance from one another.
