RIP New Haven Solari Board

As of October 18th, 2014, the old solari board at New Haven Union Station has been replaced by a new LED display that shows not only train departures, but arrivals as well, just like in an airport. The solari board has been donated to the Danbury Railway Museum. However, the other stations I know of that still have working solari boards are Newark Penn Station, Secaucus Junction, and Trenton.

This photo was taken back in May, never knowing that this would be the last time I photographed the old board. R.I.P.

I almost did not get to see the Solari board in person, but after a hastily booked bus trip from Boston after Thanksgiving last year (long story short: My vacation experience was going south and everything BOS-NYC direct was sold out, I cut the vacation short and did Megabus BOS-NHV and MNR NHV-NYC last minute) I at least got the pleasure of seeing the board for myself. I went back to New Haven in January and took this pic:
