Infrastructure Evaluation Vehicle 102 is the latest tool Metro trains has in track evaluation. The history of IEV102 goes back to 1958 where it entered service as part of the Harris(Blue train) fleet as 679T. In the 80's it was one of a few Harris cars picked to converted into V/Line interurban rolling stock. However instead of becoming part of the H set fleet it was one of 4 cars converted to be used behind a rail motor. In 1984 it became MTH102. Modifications included the addition of air conditioning, new seating and the uniquely to the MTH cars an underfloor generator to supply power to the carriage. It then spent the next portion of it's life mainly behind behind DRC rail cars with one of it's main haunts the Fraknston to Stony point line.
With the retirement of the DRC the main use was behind A class locomotives on the Fraknston to Stony Point line until 2008 when loco hauled trains were retired from the line and replaced by Sprinters.

Given another lease on Line MTH102 was converted to IEV 102 where the A/C was moved and a viewing box was put in it's place, The addition of two pantographs at each end and general modification to be used as an evaluation vehicle.
Now it spends its time sandwitched between T376-T373.
