Old Westbury via the QM6 to Lake Success

Via Garibaldi 8

Recommended Posts

I am considering attending a networking dinner in Old Westbury and would prefer to use the QM6 from Midtown to the last stop (North Shore Towers - Lake Success) and then take a taxi, OR take the LIRR and take the taxi.  From the QM6 express bus the ride would be only about 10 minutes.  Anyone know if they have cabs from the North Shore Towers that carry you into Long Island?

Depends where in Old Westbury you're going. Is it near the school SUNY Old Westbury?

He's not taking NICE bus, so I wouldn't even bother suggest that (especially considering how he is; to be fair, I wouldn't use it either if I was a rush, or I would give myself 2 hours of time). TBH, NICE to me is more of a system to ride when you have all the time in the world, some of those bus can get backed enough

It's west of SUNY Old Westbury... The location is fairly close to the Royalton at Roslyn Country Club and the Wheatley Hills Golf Course. It's about a 10 minute car ride to the North Shore Towers without traffic. I'm guessing the train station for the LIRR would be the Oyster Bay station??

This is a networking dinner in an affluent community.  I wouldn't be caught dead using NICE, nor would I ever use it. That's like going to the Oheka Castle (which was the last networking dinner I went to on Long Island) and using NICE.  lol Anytime I go to dinners or to visit clients on Long Island, I always take car service to and from the LIRR.  Either the company I work for pays for it, or I write it off under my own side thing as a business related expense since I also work as a consultant on the side.

I was going to say that but on Google maps, when I click on the Albertson station it says Oyster Bay...

Albertson Station is served by LIRR Oyster Bay Branch, however most trains start at Jamaica or Hunters Point Av, so you need to change train at Jamaica to Oyster Bay train to get to Albertson Station.

From Albertson Station, making reservation with All Island Taxi Garden City division might be best.

I took All Island Taxi from Mineola Station to NICE Bus Depot during public hearing which was $9.

I took All Island Taxi from LIBRU meeting at Ethnical Humanist Society to Roosevelt Field Mall Bus Terminal which was only $6. This was nice driver who gave me receipt.

Wouldn't it just be better to take the QM6 to Lake Success and get a taxi there? 10 minute ride to my destination.

You're better off taking the LIRR as a safer bet.

That's what I suggested and take All Island Taxi from Albertson Station to get there if station are far from Roslyn Heights.

Well that's only if you don't consider the transfers... If time isn't a factor it seems like the QM6 would be an easier ride. One bus from Midtown and then a taxi from there.

Even so, when you factor up the costs, they are almost about the same....transfers or no transfers.

Well I have a express bus pass so I'm only paying for the taxi if I take the QM6. I'll have to do some digging and see.

you sir are out of your mind just take the damn LIRR and use your bus pass on NICE. let's not complicate things with express bus that is geared to Queens then blow money on a taxi you don't even need. You have 3 options take LIRR to port Washington and use N23 or taxi (nice buses tend to meet the LIRR as soon as you get off use taxi if you like but it won't be much quicker) the 2nd option is LIRR to mineola then N23 or taxi. 3rd is if lucky get oyster bay LIRR to Roslyn and taxi or southbound N23 directly to the address. Ohh one more thing connections between N23 & LIRR are mostly guaranteed no you won't be on the horrible unreliable super routes that make NICE look so bad.

you do realize NICE is like a commuter service right? Why timed links to LIRR except in southeast Nassau or the rest of the eastern part of the county.

It's his money, let him do what he wants with it... I am strongly against telling any man what to do with his own dollar... That's not even on no internet forum shit either.....

I gotta J-Holiday this post (put it to BED)....

I'm surprised you of all people even said that, coming from someone that's BEEN fixated on suburban based bus systems.....

LIB/NICE is a failed urban-like bus system that runs in the suburbs.... Period....

That's Nassau county's problem now; on one end, it wants to be an extension of Queens (b/c urbanizing the county brings the county money) on one hand, but like Beverly freakin Hills OTOH.... Not going to happen.... Have Mangano really have his way, NICE would not exist..... If it was commuter like, those sentiments would not be shared by any politician at all.....

I hate to put it like this, but it's true.... Look at the lifestyle of folks fighting for better NICE service, and the lifestyle of folks that are flooding RR parking lots with their cars..... Which set of folks do you truly think is the majority....

NICE service being commuter-like is a joke.... Wanna see a commuter based bus system? Look no further than west of the Hudson whilst in Manhattan... Hell, even Bee-Line pulls off that *urban-like bus system while running in the suburbs* bit off better than NICE.....

why do people who use nice not use the lirr and why do people who use lirr not use the bus? Especially if many NICE buses meet the LIRR? why does bus service fail in long island.

If you look at the schedules, you'll see that most of the Pt. Wash. trains arr. about 2 min. after the s/b N23 leaves, most of the day.

It's due to the stigma that still plagues buses in general to this day.... Buses are viewed in a lot of suburban areas as transportation that's catered to the low class..... They would not be caught dead on a bus, because it would give off the impression that they are poor.... It's a part of the "keeping up with the jones' " mentality that exists in many suburbs.....

The mentality exists in some urban areas too, but it's to a much lesser extent.....

People who use nice cannot afford the LIRR. It's just cheaper to take the NICE Bus over to Queens and transfer to the subway than take the  LIRR. Come to think of it, I never see NICE Bus Riders take the bus to the LIRR for the LIRR, they're usually just transferring to another NICE route terminates the at the same station. Bus service on Long Island fails because it's underfunded and poorly routed. Aside from the malls, Jones Beach, the colleges, and retail centers, there's not enough places that I can think of that needs bus service in Nassau. It doesn't help that most of landmarks and trip generators are oddly centered in Mineola, Hempstead, Garden City, and Westbury, then scattered across different points of Nassau.

I also think it'll take a long time for people in Long Island to start accepting public transportation. Now everyone seems content with driving their cars, or taking the cab and the LIRR.
