mfs NJT459 Posted February 28, 2015 Share #2 Posted February 28, 2015 You know if Christie has not intervened in this $8.9 billion lawsuit against Exxon Mobil over the contamination in North Jersey, which said the state will get $250 million instead of $8.9 billion lawsuit, we not even be talking about fare increases and service cuts http://nytimes.com/2015/02/28/nyregion/exxon-mobil-settles-with-new-jersey-over-environmental-damage.html

mfs NJT459 Posted March 10, 2015 Share #4 Posted March 10, 2015 The New York Post says fare hikes come faster than wage increases, I remember a discussion on an info graphic on the MTA's metro card fares vs the cost of living http://nypost.com/2015/03/08/new-jersey-transits-chosen-people/
mfs NJT459 Posted April 20, 2015 Share #5 Posted April 20, 2015 It's official, 9 percent fare increase and service cuts at the end of the summer http://www.nj.com/traffic/index.ssf/2015/04/nj_transit_proposes_nine_percent_fare_hike.html?hootPostID=73deeaa364b82ec1c607475d88de8345
JAzumah Posted April 21, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted April 21, 2015 What is the 318's story? I know that the 307 was subsidized in the past by SFGA. Does the 318 not carry during the week?
553 Bridgeton Posted April 21, 2015 Share #7 Posted April 21, 2015 It does carry but its not worth having buses deadhead to six flags for the return trips. They have to pay almost 2hrs heading time plus waiting time if they have them layover at six flags. Sad....

Really disturbing. I'm not sure what else they can cut. A few of my colleagues live in NJ and commute via NJ Transit and the express buses are like sardine cans during the rush. The commuter trains aren't much better. They should cut some of the local buses if anything. The only thing I use is the 162 and 163 express bus when going shopping at the Garden State Plaza, and those buses always carry well.

The only thing I use is the 162 and 163 express bus when going shopping at the Garden State Plaza, and those buses always carry well. They did cut back the 872. They aren't cutting local buses because people have started to rely on them as much as the interstate commuters rely on the Express buses (tip: they don't call them that in Jersey, even though that's obviously what they are) so without them you'd have a ton of people who would be without a feasible way to get anywhere. And I hear you about those express buses. You should see the 139 in the morning. It gets so packed that they have to have two buses leave at the same time along with a crap ton of buses leaving every 3-6 minutes from Union Hill, Gordon's Corner, or Freehold Center. Thank god for the 133 and 135. I wish they ran a little later into the morning.

I think NJT doesn't allow for any real fat at all, so this should be VERY interesting.
traingoat Posted April 22, 2015 Share #13 Posted April 22, 2015 You have to keep in mind New Jersey lost a court case about putting money into the pensions funds and there is a gap in the budget about 500 million. So cuts have to be made and prices rise.
go25 Posted April 24, 2015 Share #14 Posted April 24, 2015 The real question should be with all the taxes that the state charges everyone, where is all that money gone?
Via Garibaldi 8 Posted April 24, 2015 Share #15 Posted April 24, 2015 The real question should be with all the taxes that the state charges everyone, where is all that money gone? Well the taxes may be but the tax free clothes shopping is a great trade off for me as a New Yorker. I'll gladly pay the higher fares to ride the 162 or 163 to Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom at the Garden State Plaza. lol
busdude2 Posted April 25, 2015 Share #16 Posted April 25, 2015 Wow i can't afford those places. Walmart, kmart yes. Taxes or not. And i love those people interviewed about fares going up would they switch to driving by car. Many said yes but i really doubt it one week of driving will change their minds really quick.
