since spring training games started i figured i'd start the thread for the coming season

Brian Cashman is stupid he says the Captainship of the Yankees should be retired with Jeter, NO! I don't think it should i think you should recognize the next once in a generation yankee with the Captainship

here's the baseball thread after the big bench clearing brawl of the jays and royals i just have to say the royals are a bunch of thugs beaning someone twice intentionally and getting away with it then when they get beaned they want to fight, also ned yost is an enabler and i hope mlb comes down hard on the royals and their thuggery, also john gibbons was correct in getting ejected.

Ortiz usually kills the yankees. I dunno what it is from joe torre to girardi on why they don't just walk him and still pitch to him. I mean pitchers would always intentionally walk barry bonds so he can't hit a homer off them. Even if ortiz is on the decline :cough:cheater:cough: he is still a threat.

Well, Severino made a rookie mistake in trying to fire a 96 mph fastball down the middle past Ortiz. It might work against AAA hitters, but not in the majors.

I like the direction of the Yankees franchise. They have a core of MLB ready talent in Aaron Judge, Greg Bird, Luis Severino and Rob Refsnyder in AAA. Every pitcher in the rotation is under 30 years old with the exception of Sabathia. Despite poor 2013 and 2014 seasons, they still contended in each year until the very end. The front office has managed to rebuild while fielding a contending team at the same time. Most teams have to do one or the either, and Cashman deserves a ton of credit for rebuilding a depleted farm system. Who knows? Perhaps Judge, Bird, Severino, Mateo and co. could be the next Core Four or Fab Five for the Yankees.

Eovaldi is working out his kinks and has been amazing the past month and a half. Tanaka and Pineda have flashed dominance the past two years. Severino may be a future ace. Hopefully James Kaprielian can max out his potential as a #2 starter. If everyone could actually remain healthy for once, the Yankees might have one of the best young rotations for years to come.

It's been almost 2 months since our resident MLB pundits last posted. What happened ? Postseason is right around the corner. Any surprises so far? Will 2015 be the year of the Subway Series. Inquiring minds want to know what to look for.. I'm really amazed that no one mentioned the passing of Yankee legend Yogi Berra whom I respected even though I was a Brooklyn Dodger fan as a kid. Carry on.

I'm pretty excited that the Mets are going to the playoffs. We've had a tremendous season, although there were points were I thought "Not this again", especially about 2 weeks ago, when the Mets were in a rough stretch.

Well I moved away from NYC recently so I don't have the time to post around here that much anymore. Anyways, it was a bitterly disappointing loss tonight. The Yankees just can't seem to solve that Keuchel kid. I was praying for the entire month of September that the Angels would sneak past the Astros just so that we wouldn't have to face Keuchel. Sure enough, he ended our season. I do like where the franchise is headed, though. I hope to see the Yankees build a new core of Refsnyder, Judge, Bird, Severino and perhaps Sanchez. Maybe another Core Four is in the wings?

As for the rest of baseball, I see the Cardinals winning the World Series. Great pitching beats great hitting and the Jays aren't going to win with offense only. I don't think their pitching can hold up compared to the other playoff teams.

Personally, I think Cashman and Girardi did a great job. I praise Cashman for not blowing the farm up. His moves, or lack thereof, most likely hurt the team this year but in a year or two the Yankees will start seeing the fruits of their labor develop. The Yankees overachieved this year It was evident that the old guys didn't have the stamina to survive an entire season, which makes it clear that the Yankees should be working to get younger, not trade the young guys and get even more veterans.

The Yankees have essentially spent the past three years rebuilding and if you watch sports for an extended amount of time, you know that it is extremely rare for teams to be able to compete while rebuilding. The fact that the Yankees have been able to contend while rebuilding the farm is a pretty significant achievement, IMO

hell i want girardi, the hitting coaches and cashman FIRED!

If you're going to say that, give me three viable replacements for them.

I wouldn't call it a rebuild. Signing Hafner, Wells, Ellsbury, McCann, Beltran, and Tanaka doesn't really constitute rebuilding. Prospect hugging is a more accurate term, and I'm very glad they did that. Trading for a Price or a Zobrist would not have helped them at all this year, so Cashman did the right thing.

Earlier in the season, someone actually wrote an article about the Yankees' spending habits--it seems that when they spend, they go all out, but in between spending sprees they barely move anything.

Haven't been on here much, too busy. I am not surprised the yankees failed by losing to the astros. Astros especially that pitcher just owned them. The hitting just went dead. Yankees slumped their way to the finish. They were lucky they clinched the wc spot as well as having home field, which did nothing for them other than making it easier to clean out their lockers sooner.

I can't blame anyone in the coaching position as no one can solve the hitting issues with this team. They can either beat the hell out of a team like 13-21 to whatever in a few games and get shut down the next. Even the new coach this year couldn't help them, so another coach won't make a difference.

I fully approve cashamn for not panicing and trading the young guys for a few month rentals. Even if the yankees got david price, he can't hit and if he was here all he would've done was made the score like 1-0 loss because he would have had no run support. Let's face it, the team did over achieve and i predicted they would have at best clinched a wc spot. With the likes of the royals and the blue jays and now astros, whoever wins the alcs will really deserve it. On the NL side i never expected the nl central to be that cut throat, so congrats to 3 of the 5 teams there all clinching a playoff spot.

I dunno who will win the ws, but i think it might be cool to see an all Missouri ws. Otoh, i might like to see the blue jays and cubs in it since it has been so long for either team being in the ws.

Finally rip to yogi berra, the most winningest player of all time for the yankees with 10 championships and of course his unforgettable comments like 'it ain't over till it is over' etc. he will be missed. I am glad geroge steinberner apologized to him years ago and yogi returning back to the stadium.

And the season ends. Royals wins the ws in 5 games because the mets couldn't finish the whole 9 innings of the game before imploding. It is a shame that the mets could've very well won all 3 home games and almost could've won the series too. I give them credit for not getting swept like the 2007 rockies, but the royals were a very good team coming very close last year. Royals deserved the win so my hat off to them. The retooling for next year begins and i dunno if the mets are willing to keep most of the players around for next year especially the likes of murphy and cespedes.
