Hi, so I got into the lirr overview in the cognitive and vocabulary and they said I did really well. I did an interview that day and I got called in for a signal and definition exam. I got a call 3 days later saying I passed supposedly a 100 since that is considered passing. And now I went through a writing sample and panel interview (very long interview) and they said they are going to pick only 15 people for phase 1 and eliminate 3 for phase 2. I would please like to know how soon I should hear from them and if you think I have made it to phase 1 since I sacrificed so much to get to that point. She said the first class rolling will be this December so I'm not sure when I'll receive an email. And if I dont get called in for December she said three months later =[.

I wish I can tell you but the RR runs on its own time when it comes to HR. You're just going to have to be patience. They have so many LE classes lined up it might be a while.

Hey I just joined these forums and I was waiting for a response for this position and im pretty disappointed. I've worked for American Airlines for 19 years as a Crew chief/cleaner and deicer. My job cleaning for American Airlines is the exact description for the car appearance maintainer. My job as a deicer is the exact description of the oiler and my cover letter and resume clearly show this but I did'nt get an email. I would have thought the LIRR would want experienced new hires. What criteria are they looking for? Im unemployed right now and was really hoping Id get a email. I would love the opportunity to work for the LI railroad.

No one can figure out the RR hiring process. Just have to keep applying and hopefully you get called. From what I heard they pretty much know who they know who they will be hiring. Thet just have to post the job beacuse of the EEO and other watch groups. I know three guys who got hired there this past year and they all knew someone. Good Luck

I agree with S/A 100%.

I've applied for many LIRR jobs over the years with no responses. I'd recommend trying NYC Transit instead - they follow real civil service rules. You file for a test, take it, your score is published, and then you eventually get called in for processing.

My understanding is that LIRR (and possibly Metro Norh) got an exemption from normal civil service rules so every job is a "resume position."

You're welcome to keep applying, and I'm sure there are some people interviewed and hired who don't know someone, but I've found it pointless. Despite living on Long Island and passing through Jamaica Station (LIRR HQ) everyday I don't expect to ever work there.

First , welcome to the forum, secondly which email was you implying about? You have to have patience . I don't think they are going to make any moves until next year. With your background I would keep trying and not give up. I came from the airline industry also like many others here on the RR.Also this goes for anyone else. It took me almost couple of years to get in and the only RR people I knew was the ones who worked at the same airlines I did. Keep at it and believe me it will pay off. With the mass retirements comimg up and the expansion with the ESA , they are going to need people. This RR is going to be much bigger in the years ahead. Good luck and don't give up.

i'm sure you've read it a few times, "patience" and just hope for the best. at least you didn't spend anything when you applied and have not received a letter or email declining your application. othes waited long others did not. keep applying, i know they held an open house for assistant conductors 2 weeks ago. good luck to everyone.

LIRR are Metro North are as much civil service as CSX, UP, and Amtrak.  They are all railroads and are not required to follow civil service rules.
