checkmatechamp13 Posted February 5, 2016 Share #3 Posted February 5, 2016 Wow, my condolences to the man who was killed, and I hope the ones who were injured make it out alright. From what the news reported, they said apparently the crane wasn't being operated at all that day, but they were taking it down before the winds reached 25 mph, and the operator lost control. They're looking into whether it was something with the counterweight.

Via Garibaldi 8 Posted February 7, 2016 Share #5 Posted February 7, 2016 My co worker was doing the downtown run that day. Said he heard a loud BANG and was able to detour around the impending traffic jam That area is still closed off. Took the X27 in last night from Bay Ridge and we had to take Hudson Street up to 23rd and come over that way.

Via Garibaldi 8 Posted February 9, 2016 Share #7 Posted February 9, 2016 My X17 took West-Spring-6th (which is basically the X6/9 route). I was a little annoyed with the driver because this was a later X27 bus so he had to have made at least one trip to the city before that one, yet he acted as if he didn't know that the detour was in effect. We wasted probably 15 minutes sitting there as he tried to figure out which way to go. I didn't make a stink since he was nice and got up to Midtown fast. At least I got a cat nap out of it.
