A crane collapse this morning in Lower Manhattan has left one person dead and 2 others injured. It occurred on Worth Street in the area between West Broadway and Church Street. (1) trains are bypassing Franklin & Chambers and the (2) & (3) are bypassing Chambers Street. There are also street closures. Mayor DeBalsio will be addressing about this shortly in a press conference.

Wow, my condolences to the man who was killed, and I hope the ones who were injured make it out alright.  :(

From what the news reported, they said apparently the crane wasn't being operated at all that day, but they were taking it down before the winds reached 25 mph, and the operator lost control. They're looking into whether it was something with the counterweight.

My X17 took West-Spring-6th (which is basically the X6/9 route).

I was a little annoyed with the driver because this was a later X27 bus so he had to have made at least one trip to the city before that one, yet he acted as if he didn't know that the detour was in effect.  We wasted probably 15 minutes sitting there as he tried to figure out which way to go.  I didn't make a stink since he was nice and got up to Midtown fast.  At least I got a cat nap out of it.
