LIC Plans to turn the Montauk cutoff into a new park.

That track hasn't seen service of any kind in about 30 years. Those blue boogies that are on it represent a failed attempt by the LIRR and the New York Cross Harbor to introduce intermodal freight service to the island. They have been sitting there for years. But the main reason it has been disconnected is because of the construction of a new freight terminal nearby, on the Lower Montauk. Whatever freight that might have used the cutoff no longer has to use it.
