I used to do regional spotlights when I traveled last summer. Of course, I had a fatter wallet then. Happier times indeed..

Hey guys! It's time for another spotlight on transit agencies I've traveled through!

Agency: New Jersey Transit

Bus of Focus - NJ159 | PABT via Bergenline Avenue - Downtown Fort Lee

Fare for this agency: $1.50 per zone - to complete this route, you need to pay for five zones

On my way back from Glen Rock, which I've often referred to as the "Edge of Transit" as points west are served ONLY by the Bergen and Port Jervis lines, I boarded the NJ-159 after eating breakfast at a nearby Dunkin Donuts near the bridge overpass.

A handful of NJ buses, oddly enough, utilize the same technology as buses operated by the Bee-Line in Westchester. The hardware, basic components, and parts availability are similar, although these guys give Express comfort to many of their local routes.

NJT uses a text-to-page system very similar to MTA buses to give a text reply as to where a bus is from the 5-digit stop code you enter, associated with the nearby intersection. In the case of three way roads, it is the one bearing right.

The Transit App (Play Store Keyword "pname:com.thetransitapp.droid") which I often use in my Hudson Valley Adventures, has a GTFS (XML-based) file so NJ Transit routes can be displayed. NJT also services seven commuter railroads, including the Port Jervis and Pascack Valley lines O&O'ed by MetroNorth.

This bus typically terminates at the Port Authority Terminal at 42nd St & 8th Ave. To enter the City, it uses a smaller pass through bridge about 12 blocks south of the GW. Upon entry, it uses an upper level of Riverside Dr to get to the terminal without being obtrusive to in-agency (MTA, in this case) buses.

I hope you all enjoyed that. I have covered the trails of seven local agencies all around Westchester County. After referencing the last agency, I will start again with another bus from the first one I reported.

Safe Travels, and Enjoy all that #publictransit has to offer!

Picture: NJ-159 NY-bound in Downtown Fort Lee about seven minutes from the GW overpass (which it does not use). This photo was acquired via Google Image Search. Oddly enough, I recognize the tire store behind it...
