MHV9218 Posted December 28, 2016 Share #51 Posted December 28, 2016 Slight update on this. There are, actually, a bunch of signs at Union Square that predate 2010 with lettering that have been retained, only they're mostly confined to the platforms and exits. For these, the MTA just removed the stickers covering the bullets, which saved a lot of these porcelain signs in generally good condition. However, on a couple of these they peeled off a little too much, and now the has been exposed on them too.

MysteriousBtrain Posted December 31, 2016 Share #57 Posted December 31, 2016 Couldn't they bring back the by rerouting the via 4th Avenue local and having it terminate at 9th Avenue? Why make two routes that are just basically duplicates? The current set up is fine. That's why the and switched how they operate in Brooklyn, to make things simple.
bobtehpanda Posted December 31, 2016 Share #58 Posted December 31, 2016 Couldn't they bring back the by rerouting the via 4th Avenue local and having it terminate at 9th Avenue? The would be less useful. Right now the Brighton Line has direct access to the Broadway and 6th Av expresses, so getting rid of the eliminates that. MHV184 Posted January 3, 2017 Share #64 Posted January 3, 2017 Because its useless How? You should see how it is in rush hours In the 1 line it's always crowded and trains come late and sometimes even skip the station but if u have the 9 running it might relieve crowding. danielhg121 Posted January 3, 2017 Share #65 Posted January 3, 2017 The 9 is repetitive, just because you put a 9 on the train. It doesn't reduce headways for the . The had low ridership back then and probably will continue to have it. Sent from my iPhone using NYC Transit Forums mobile app

Sent from my iPhone using NYC Transit Forums mobile app I disagree on that I believe that more people will ride the 9 train for faster service and for those people to get to school or work faster. Lance Posted January 3, 2017 Share #71 Posted January 3, 2017 Face it, the line did not work as intended. That's why it was discontinued. No amount of forcing will change that. And before any rocket scientist brings it up, no, express service on Upper Broadway will not work either. The track setup prevents useful implementation without either delaying all train service or screwing over riders at the so-called local stations. Around the Horn Posted January 3, 2017 Share #73 Posted January 3, 2017 Not this again! The will never return unless the Red Hook redevelopment plan goes through. The track setup prevents useful implementation without either delaying all train service or screwing over riders at the so-called local stations. To add on, the third track was added at the last minute, and therefore no access could be provided to any of the stations on the line. If you are wondering why there is a two track segment north of 157th, that is because they already had the deep tunnel built as two tracks.
