MTA trashes pilot program that removes bin from subway Station

I guess this plan was complete garbage.

Seriously though, what did they expect to happen? With the myriad of ways one can accumulate trash within the system alone, from the many platform vendors to the people handing out the AMNY and Metro papers, among other periodicals, this was always doomed to failure. The average rider could never be expected to hold onto their trash until they left the station, at least not without serious enforcement. And besides, removing the trash bins only added to the problem of dirty platforms and tracks, which does not help anyone.

I'm one of the most garbage conscious people around who will hold on to their garbage until they find a can and ALWAYS recycles what can be recycled (I will hold on to my water bottles and other drinks and rinse/wash them and then put them into my recycling), and even I found it annoying to have to hold on to my trash underground.  I never eat meals or anything anyway in the subway, but I'm guilty of wanting to have an espresso and a pastry or a small snack before heading down into the subway sometimes, and I don't feel like holding on to an espresso cup for my ride that I've finished on the platform, only to board onto a packed subway car and have to hold on to it.  Just annoying and stupid all around.

Even the best case scenario for this pilot was... that all the garbage would simply be thrown into a trash can at another station, which does not help with anything.

LOL! Something I've done myself... I mean hey if there aren't any trash cans at one station, which I've had happen on a number of occasions, I'm going to dump it as soon as I find one, wherever that may be.

I don't know why this is such ground breaking news lol...Stations are cleaner now that they are actually being cleaned regularly by a bigger staff of cleaners with new equipment. Duh.

That doesn't mean just toss ur trash everywhere, they can still cause delays like track fires, we already got enough bums in the city doing that.

I read about this in thursday's (IINM) amNY.... Along with it, it featured a stat in there, that stated that there were 1599 track fires since the start of the new year..... Soon as I saw that, I side-eyed it..... Where, when, and at (or in-between) what stations are all these track fires occurring; to the tune of 400 a month? That's like 13 a day....

Anyway, whenever I took the (J) to Sutphin for the LIRR, you know what I did with my garbage? Waited until I got to platform level on the LIRR..... I always see those guys changing garbage bags (same as at LIRR Mineola btw); to the point where I say to myself, boy, what a waste of bags.... The things don't even be 1/4 full..... It's rare that I see anything past 1/2 full.....

I guess I'm indifferent to this pilot program, because I'm not exactly calling it a success or a failure....
