So the M15 Local is getting the new buses next...

I'm glad they're getting these new buses. They were solo needed. The old ones not only break down, but are absolutely filthy with crappy dirty AC to boot. It's also interesting that several neighborhoods have been complaining about the subpar M15 local bus. I can attest to how poor it is. You are better off taking the SBS.

What the article fails to mention that the SBS service is ran by MCH and NOT 100th street and there will be some old buses for a while. The 1200's at MCH need to be replaced and out of SBS service. However, with this current order I don't think that's happening right now.

It's great the East Side is getting new buses and now 100th street has a few rush hour runs on the M14.

More people clamoring for SBS since local service has gotten worse..... By design, this represents the future of overall bus service in NYC.

As for the new buses.... Well, I'm by no means a germaphobe, but riding those D60HF's in general would want to turn me into one - I'll put it that way.... Everything to me looks 5x dirtier on them, compared to other buses - especially looking at the seats.... Looks like mold has set in on em or something..... So the local M15 getting new buses considering that aspect of things is good.... However, at the same time, looking at the bigger picture, I have to say that putting lipstick on a pig won't solve anything....

"You can stand there for 25 to 35 minutes and see three Select Bus Service buses go by," said Valerie Mason, president of the East 72nd Street Neighborhood Association, last year. "In the last six years, local service has deteriorated greatly."

....but I aint one to gossip, so you aint heard that from me.

I love how people quoted in the article think the M15 has the oldest bus fleet in the city. They clearly haven't been to some parts of Queens (or East Midtown where the Q101 terminates) where 21 year old buses from 1996 are still running.

I'll cut them some slack with that, given what they have to put up with.... I mean, I'll put up with those 21 year old bad boys, over those nasty D60HF's they got on the M15 & the 3rd/Lex routes....

They're not talking about the M15SBS getting new buses. They're talking about the M15 LOCAL, which is out of Tuskegee Depot, so the line will get new buses. You clearly did not read the article because if you did, you would know that no one is complaining about the buses being used on the M15SBS. Yes they are old, but certainly nowhere near as bad as those disgusting DHF60 buses, and it looks like all of those will be replaced.

Considering that most of those units in Manhattan started their lives in The Bronx...that practically explains it all. Then some of the ones that briefly ran on the Q10 got much worse!

The D60HFs with the plastic seats aren't as dirty as the ones with the fabric. Actually the cleanest fabric seat D60HF I've had was surprisingly out of GH, which according to many on this site, is known for sub-par maintenance.

Prior to the arrival of the 1200s, they weren't all that good. Changes in AGMs and supervisors shook everything up to an extent. Their buses may look beat on the outside now, but some are pretty decent on the inside.

Kinda wish they'd change all the seats to plastic, but seeing as they are seeing themselves out soon enough, there's no point.

Why are they making such a big deal about a 72nd street stop? There's a 67th and 79th street stop they can go to for SBS, and bustime lets you see how far away the local is

While I don't agree that 72nd Street should be an SBS stop, I can see where they're coming from. They might already be walking a couple of blocks from 1st or York (if we're talking about 2nd Avenue. If it's 1st Avenue but they live on 2nd, it's still a block), and then to walk a few more for a senior or when you're just tired or if there's bad weather, I can see how it could be annoying. There's also a lot of hospitals in that area (and on the East Side in general. e.g. Down around the M9 terminal).

Also, the vocal people are often the seniors themselves, since they're the people with time to complain, so it's something to keep in mind.

Haha, that is true. I take the M15 local fairly often and to be honest it's not too bad when I take it. I actually prefer the local over the sbs of traffic is bad, since I can get off and walk at any local stop.

While I didn't think Manhattan riders were f***ing up the buses like that, I never gave a 2nd thought about where the buses were coming from.... That explains it enough for me....

Yeah, that's true.... I should've been more specific & specifically mentioned the ones with the fabric on the seats....

Potential Av. L situation perhaps?

(talking about the B44 SBS)

Underrated post.

They're also the people that have time to go to these MTA hearings that are often scheduled when younger adults are either off working or in school.... Employers nowadays are more stringe.... ahh, screw it - being absolute dickheads about employees taking time off.... I know of a guy that got fired his first day back on the job after taking off work to go to his aunt's funeral.... He was granted bereavement.... Hell, there are also cases where employers will fire you for attending jury duty... There's a term for that & it's called Wrongful termination..... They are so brazen about it, automatically assuming most won't sue the pants off them for that illegal activity.....

Regardless of my views on SBS, I resort to taking locals to avoid the madness....

The bus train of thought I have to admit, started when so many ppl. around here would (and still) pile onto B35 LTD's when it isn't that much different time-wise to taking a local....

Speaking of jury duty, my boss tried to pull a stunt like that with me a few years ago, where she made an off-cuff comment about how it seemed as if I wanted to be out on jury duty.  Well I told her in a firm tone in short that if she screwed with me, not only would I inform the judge, but I seek legal advice as well.  Suffice it to say I was paid for the entire three weeks I was out.  :D  You let employers walk over you and they will do just that.  Folks need to have some back bone.

She gives us a lot of time off yet makes a big deal when people want to take off, so I was blunt and told her there seems to be a problem when I want to take time off.  Since then she's been more accommodating, so if for example I want to leave early to attend a meeting, she's usually ok with it. I mean hell most of us have a good month of vacation time, plus five sick days, two optional and two personal days (I don't use nearly all of my days) so might as well use at least some of them.

"Buses with free Wi-Fi, USB charging, and digital information screens will be added to the M14, M15, M101, M102, and M103 bus routes per week, and will eventually replace the slower ones that have caused bunching along the route, according to city officials."

Yeah, cause that's exactly how it works. Slow buses bunch and fast buses don't. No brainer!
