BreeddekalbL Posted May 19, 2017 Share #1 Posted May 19, 2017 on page 49 of 110 of the lirr committee there will be MARC cars coming to the LIRR http://web.mta.info/mta/news/books/pdf/170522_0930_LIRR.pdf
mfs NJT459 Posted May 19, 2017 Share #2 Posted May 19, 2017 Interesting, especially when they come off from SEPTA last Summer/Fall... but I'm not sure if they're really needed this summer due to the planned partial shutdown at Penn Station where LIRR will experience reduced services

These are primarily for the Montauk Branch.

Around the Horn Posted May 20, 2017 Share #5 Posted May 20, 2017 are we short on cars or are they to expand service? More like sort on seats (cue nonstop reports every summer about overcrowded trains)
BreeddekalbL Posted May 20, 2017 Author Share #6 Posted May 20, 2017 More like sort on seats (cue nonstop reports every summer about overcrowded trains) so in essence a service expansion especially for the cannon balls?
RES2773 Posted May 21, 2017 Share #7 Posted May 21, 2017 Very interesting. Not really sure if needed though. The trains may be overcrowded, but they're pretty much at capacity right now. Mtatransit Posted May 21, 2017 Share #8 Posted May 21, 2017 I think the cars should be used on the Greenport Shuttle, and/or the Oyster Bay Branch, while freeing the bi-levels to the Montauk Branch
bobtehpanda Posted May 21, 2017 Share #9 Posted May 21, 2017 From what I understand, the bi-levels are being run into the ground because there aren't enough of them to run the minimum service guidelines stipulated by the LIRR anyways, so every little bit counts. bobtehpanda Posted May 22, 2017 Share #11 Posted May 22, 2017 meaning we are short or they are pretty much running them "all hands on deck" with no spares After reading the LIRR Today newsletter, I get the impression that both are the case. nostalgia Posted May 23, 2017 Share #12 Posted May 23, 2017 With the pending service cutbacks coming because of repairs to Penn Station, I don't understand why they need more equipment. I read in The Times that the LIRR is taking the hit for July as the only affected railroad. I guess it will be NJT's turn in August. I expect Amtrak NEVER to take a hit. I expect Amtrak NEVER to take a hit. well amtrak's only "hit" is sending empire trains to GCT and regarding the LIRR it's supposedly that they are adding extra seats for running trains on the montauk since summer trains are crowded. nostalgia Posted May 24, 2017 Share #14 Posted May 24, 2017 Based on information I have, the following turns will be routed to GCT: train 236 will turn for 235; train 230 will turn for 233; and train 238 will turn for 239. Routing trains to Grand Central is a nuisance. Eliminating and combining trains is much worse.
Around the Horn Posted May 24, 2017 Share #15 Posted May 24, 2017 Amtrak runs so little trains compared to LIRR and NJT (who's rerouting all Midtown Direct trains to Hoboken) that they wouldn't be affected by a reduction of capacity as much as LIRR or NJT. IAlam Posted May 24, 2017 Share #16 Posted May 24, 2017 The LIRR should be making a better use of Hunterspoint Ave ESPECIALLY since the has extra capacity during midday and overnight hours.

Interested Rider Posted July 17, 2017 Share #25 Posted July 17, 2017 As the emperor (I mean Marie Antoinette) would say "Let them eat cake". The emperor does not care about the Port Jefferson riders (or their votes) as he feels that he could get away with anything The Montauk crowd provides him withe the grease (money) that he needs to fund his grandiose dream to become president some day despite the fact that most of the country find the Coast elites who are now running the show are anathema to their best interest. He is under the impression that he will still get-re-elected no matter what next year. The emperor is so out of touch with reality as he is doing the same thing with the subways, The only time he does something is when his poll numbers start dropping precipitously and then he comes up with something that he hopes will placate the masses.
