Window Wraps

I've been noticing in recent months and maybe within the last year or two there's been a wave of window wraps on the express buses. Is there a possibility that the wraps used on express buses will migrate over to local buses? Primarily Manhattan and or Brooklyn?

 

I understand that most express bus depots don't use the window wraps on local buses. Reason why I'm saying this is because when I leave the city for Philadelphia and Washington DC. They wrap their buses or at the least rear wrap their buses (I'm guessing for adversting dollars). Will the (MTA) ever go back to rear wraps or window wraps on their local buses?

The window wraps on the express bus really needs to stop. Paying $6.50 to look through blur...

 

Some people refuse to sit in seats that have the wrap over the window, unless the bus is getting crowded, but those are usually the last few seats to get doubled up.

 

I do recall seeing a lot of Orion VII OG/NG Hybrids from the city wrapped with window wraps(only one window is covered up; it's connected to the main ad on the side panels under the windows). So I'm sure they're interchangeable, but they best work on those buses.

 

Express buses should only have side ads for under the windows. The local buses should have them on the sides under the windows, a banner ad for the space over the windows, and the rear panel ad.

 

However, with the new scheme, buses are becoming ad-less on the outside (which I agree on). There should be ads all over the insides similar to how the subway cars are set up(across the top) and that's it.

Agreed. I actually get a head ache trying to look through the windows with the wraps. I don't think the window wraps are any more effective than a regular ad, to be honest.

With the prevosts you can't have rear ads on the back of those buses, and I get what your saying about the window wrap on the driver side of the bus.

 

The question would pose. With the incoming bus orders in guessing we will see rear ads on the new buses?

 

Also, with the current fleet no rear or window wraps with exception of express buses and what are other ways that (MTA) can generate advertising costs?

 

I saw a few buses in Manhattan with the __I shape on the driver side, and certain ads you would see in Manhattan with the exterior top portion of the bus in Manhattan, you don't get those ads in Brooklyn or The Bronx.

But on that, with a 7 million daily ridership, why is it that NYCTA advertising revenue isn't higher? I might be comparing two different mediums, but if TV networks/shows are profitable getting 3.5 million people to watch the show and commercials - despite changing channels, why can't transit do better in this area when it has a captive audience?

They're also stopping because people are complaining about them officially.

Location, location, location. I want my ads to be seen, but I don't want them to be subconsciously associated with Dr. Zizmor. MTA and its ad subcontractor (since I don't think they actually run ads by themselves?) have been very slow to migrating to all-corporate ads.

Speaking of Ads looks like Front End Ads are going out with the RTS ... No Xcelsiors or LFS's are carrying front Ads.... Only JG puts Front ad on their C40s ... CP SC and WF do not.  ECH seems to have stopped being bothered w/Front Ads, its the only depot still sporting Old Fox 5 ads while the rest of the fleet is back on VIM ads.

The ads should be where they've always been.  There's plenty of room for them on the sides of the bus and in the front and back, but NOT on the windows.  The also don't seem to place ads in the buses anymore, or if they do, it's the same ads placed through the entire bus.

..... Especially in New York City. I just feel that the (MTA) needs to do better with advertising with the outer boroughs like Manhattan where you would see the actual ad matching with the roof ad and the 30x215, 30x240 and 30x240 super king.

 

It's rare that you see an 30x240, 30x240 super king or 30x215 ads on buses on a consistent basis in the outer boroughs but more in Manhattan. Just guessing it has to do with location to where the services are being marketed to and bus maintenance when getting rid of the ad after it's 3-6 months use.

Them license plates never stopped Gleason lol. There was one bus (I think it was 245) that they put a front ad on, and just (crudely) cut around the license plate. Looked ultra tacky to me

Lmao, I think I remember seeing that actually. At least they never pulled that on the original C40s.

 

Also forgot in the first post, SC's C40s are the older version with the center-ish plates, so those also can't (shouldn't) have ads.

I think because of the nose of the Xcelsior, those ads have had a hard time trying to stay on it. I've seen those ads slowly peel off of the front when I would see them on the Q24.

 

They also looked tacky. Makes me glad they don't use them on the front of those buses anymore.

Same thing with Flatbush, Fresh Pond and Ulmer Park. Those depots eliminated the front ads on their XD40's.

I think this would only be for Manhattan, and would not expand citywide on depending how this go. However, I do agree with you on this.

 

The MJQ bus that I saw on was 67xx series tho.

Seen NG 3807 MJQ with a full side wrap on the driver side earlier this evening on the M50. Could only guess that this will eventually spread throughout the Manhattan Division soon.
