Countdown clocks are active on the R line

Recommended Posts

And the Subway Time has gotten a complete refresh and works for all trains at (R) line stations. No press release at this time.

The app also includes a rough timeline for countdown clock activation with the (C) line stations next.

Lol, beat me in the Random Thoughts thread by 2 minutes. I thought they were being done by line, not by service though. I guess you will be able to track other services where there are already countdown clocks (ex: (M) along QBL, despite the coutndown clocks bot going into effect until Septemeber (estimated).

Lol at the SIR receiving these dead last with the Franklin Avenue shuttle.

The slowest.....train.....on......earth.....finally....gets....countdown....clocks.... The people that use that line should throw a cocktail party or something. Celebrate!

LMAO. I pretty much threw a party when I found out

(which is funny because I pretty much exclusively use the (N) now that Bay Ridge Avenue is closed)

Why is the (M) showing up on the in-station board, but subway time says September.

Dunno, but if you click on an R station that it shares with other lines like the E, F, M, the app shows those trains' times as well for that station.

Lolol. This is the strangest roll out I've ever seen. Lots of poor communication

Some early thoughts on the refreshed Subway Time app:

As I mentioned, if you click on a station shared by the R and other lines, all lines in that station will show up.

The 2 possible directions on the R are listed as uptown and downtown. That's fine for Manhattan, but a bit confusing for Queens.

The app says SIR will go live in December, but SIR is already in the app.

The App now has links to the MTA Service Status page and to all subway, rail and bus maps.

The new interface seems to show a max of the 4 next trains for each station. I believe the previous version often would show more than 4 trains.

I had the previous version of the App in my phone. When I opened it tonight, it still was the old version. In the App Store, the only option I was given was to open the App since I already had it. But this retrieved the old version. So to get the new version, I had to delete the old one and download the new one.

Well if they go out ahead and say some stations on the E, F, M have it then you know some idiot at Gothamist or some other rag is going to be like 'THE MTA LIED TO ME BECAUSE I DONT HAVE IT AT MY F STATION!', because that's basically what it was like back when the wifi was rolling out.

Lol you would think they would get the Franklin shuttle first since there's only 4 stations and 2 entire trains on the line

Awesome news for (R) riders (including those that use it to connect with the SI Ferry at Whitehall Street or the buses in Bay Ridge).

Looks like the (C) is next, which means by default, I'll be able to see the express (A) as well when I'm going to/from class (to decide whether it's better to stay on the train at 59th or wait for an express)

The SIR is already on TrainTime. I use it regularly when I need to take it from Grasmere.

The thing is that since it's so short, the shuttle is probably fairly reliable, so if you memorize the schedule, it should be relatively easy to time yourself for a train.

Are these gonna have full spliced-up audio announcements (in addition to to the Control Center PSA's)?

Also I appreciate that these are already up on some stations on the L but what could at least happen on them is make the graphics consistent (white background, no Caps Lock, scrolling Subway status headline on the bottom+time & weather, etc.)

What is annoying is, at Queens Plaza, the countdown clocks are located at annoying spots on the platform. I get on at the Northern Boulevard entrance, and there are no countdown clocks near that section of the platform. At Kew Gardens, one of the countdown clocks was stupidly placed behind one of the old clocks. Therefore, from one direction, it can't be seen. Two countdown clocks per platform on the shorter IRT platforms might work, but not for 660-foot long platforms.

That's something you should file a complaint about. They're not thinking about the riders. They just place them wherever.

Finally. Oddly enough, as of this post, the entire IRT system is currently down. Guess they can't handle both systems simultaneously.  :P I'll be glad when the data gets out to the third-party apps. While the SubwayTime app has been updated, it's still woefully inadequate in comparison to the many other subway-related apps available. Psst, MTA, people like maps where they can click on their desired station, not strip maps where they have to scroll down to find their station.

I have one better. Two words: Rockefeller Center. Anyone who's been at that station knows there are about a thousand entrances. In their infinite wisdom, there is only one mezzanine display at the entrance closest to 49th Street and two platform displays on the southern end of each platform. While the system is not yet active for the 6th Avenue line, I hope that whenever real-time data gets turned on, Transit utilizes the On The Go displays as well. Otherwise most people won't realize there are actually working countdown clocks in their stations.

If you play with the link, you will find there exists pages of arrival time for other letter lines (just not the whole line of course)

e.g.

(A)http://apps.mta.info/traintime2/#/app/stations/a

(B)http://apps.mta.info/traintime2/#/app/stations/b

(C)http://apps.mta.info/traintime2/#/app/stations/c

........

Cool.
