MTH™ R142A - New York City Subway
Sep 08, 2010 - 3:04 PM - by Brighton Local
Set: R142A
Producer: MTH-Mikes Train House
Road Name: Metropolitan Transportation Authority - New York City Transit
Release Date: January 2010
Scale: O Gauge-MTH Railking Line
Route:
North Terminal: Pelham Bay Park, Bronx
South Terminal: Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall, Manhattan
Via: Lexington Avenue Local

How many of us can remember the days in early/mid 2001 when we heard a clear, precise Automated Subway announcement that went a little like this: "This is Bronx-Bound 6 Train, the next stop is Grand Central-42 St, Stand Clear of the closing doors please". After coming in contact with the new "Hi-Tech 6 Train", New Yorkers got a glimpse of the future of their Mass Transit System.

The purpose of the creation of the R142/R142A's was to replace the aging 'Redbird' fleet. After making its debut on the 6 Train in 2001, these new R142/R142A (NTT) New... [Read More]

MTH™ NJ Transit ALP-44 #4414
Mar 20, 2010 - 9:26 AM - by N-Trizzy2609
Engine: ALP-44
Producer: MTH Electric Trains
Road Name: NJ Transit
Road Number: 4414
Release Date: Late February 2010

The ALP-44 set features:
-Proto-Sound 2.0
-Station Stop Effect
-Automatic Couplers
-Stainless Steel Plating
-Working Strobe Lights
-Working Pantographs
-Authentic Paint Scheme
-Detailed Cab Figures

The MTH NJ Transit ALP-44 is a smooth running engine. Completed with stainless steel plating and perfectly matched paint scheme, this train is defiantly one for the collection. It runs smooth, even on dirty track, and it can pull 3 Atlas O cars with ease. I tested it with CalTrain Bi-Level cars and those also were pulled smoothly except the engine seems to have a hard time when it went around my O-31 layout which is above the test track.

Pros:
-Has the actual K5LA and bell the real ALP-44 uses.
-Works great in 'Push' mode.
-Smooth running and handling.
-Matches the 2002 and 2009 Atlas O Comet II cars perfectly.

Con's:
-It's really an AEM-7 in ALP-44 clothes.
-Does not feature ditch lights, just strobe... [Read More]

MTH™ Brooklyn PCC StreetCar
Feb 05, 2010 - 12:00 PM - by Brighton Local
Set: Brooklyn PCC (President Conference Committee) Streetcar
Producer: MTH-Mikes Train House
Road Name: Brooklyn & Queens Transit PCC (St. Louis Car, 1936)
Release Date: May / June 2006
Scale: O Gauge-MTH Railking Line
Route: # 68
North Terminal: Brooklyn Bridge-Sands Street, Brooklyn
South Terminal: Sea Breeze Av-Coney Island, Brooklyn
Via: Coney Island Avenue

Lets travel back to the days before buses ruled the roads, shall we? When Electric Streetcars transported New Yorkers from one end of Queens to Downtown, Brooklyn.

This is MTH's Brooklyn President Conference Committee Streetcar. The model is definitely reenacting the route of the streetcar line within the 1940s/1950s era.

The #68 route ran from Sand St-Brooklyn Bridge to Sea Breeze Av-Coney Island. The main stretch of its route ran along Coney Island Av down to Brighton Beach Av, then turning right under the Brighton El, then left onto Brighton 1st Way to the boardwalk, then turned right along the Boardwalk until it hit Coney Island.

The Streetcar stops for this model are as follows:

MTH™ R21 - New York City Subway
Dec 03, 2009 - 11:11 PM - by Brighton Local
Set: R21 - Redbird
Producer: MTH-Mikes Train House
Road Name: Metropolitan Transportation Authority - New York City Transit
Release Date: Summer of 2001
Scale: O Gauge-MTH Railking Line
Route:
North Terminal: East-241 St-White Plains Road, Bronx
South Terminal: Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn
Via: 7 Av Express

Ahh yes, the beloved Redbird Subway Cars that ran through the tunnels and over the Els in New York City. The Redbirds were (and still are) an icon to the Subway system up until the last set was retired in November of 2003.

In the Summer of 2001, MTH Electric Trains released a 4-Car Redbird Subway Set with sound and signage for the West Side-7 Av Express Train.

This set is painted with the Redbird scheme from the mid-80s to 2003; however, on the same token, its been stated that the R-21 Class never actually wore this scheme.
