MattTrain Posted December 29, 2008 Share #14 Posted December 29, 2008 Your pictures are great, especially the R40M on . The uses R40 cars regularly so I don't see that as a surprise. Wow, there are more R42 cars popping on the these days. 8 Avenue is truly a mixed bag of train cars now, R40, R40M, R42, R32, R38 R44 and R160A cars. WOW! MTR Admiralty Posted December 30, 2008 Share #17 Posted December 30, 2008 Very nice clear and crisp pix, wonders if (X) will be the garbage train all the time...And wonders what will happen if that R-68 gets rerouted on to the by accident while in full speed and brakes are expirencing difficulty... I think that happened once, not with a R68 though... But if we have Div B car on Div A deja vu... it is going to be BIG TROUBLE
mark1447 Posted December 30, 2008 Author Share #18 Posted December 30, 2008 Nice photos, Mark! Interesting mismatched garbage train. Looks cold outside with the snow shots. Thanks for sharing! B) LOL cold always in NY thanks! @Metatops- Yeah I ment to say 40M, and yes the 8th Avenue line is getting sunshine now, seeing that all the old and new cars are there B) @BronxBoys77- Thanks I use Samsung S73 (S730 Family) http://www.samsungcamera.com/product/pro_view.asp?prol_uid=2698&cat_uid=11 I paid like 80$ at Radioshack. All you just gotta do is have your camara looks str8 with any cam, ive told people but lots dont care. and u can download Windows Live Photo Gallery Beta, as it includes a feature to straighten your pics: windowslive.com '_ Thanks btw @backline- Thanks! =]~ @MTR Admiralty- ya but u can have it on the exp track[Elevated Local station only], but what would happen if an IRT passes it, seeing that the B div car is wide, would that be a problem? More Comments are Welcome =]~ And dont forget my bus shots for comments!
MTR Admiralty Posted December 30, 2008 Share #19 Posted December 30, 2008 ya but u can have it on the exp track[Elevated Local station only], but what would happen if an IRT passes it, seeing that the B div car is wide, would that be a problem? It depends on the distance between the tracks. A Dv B car is 9.75 feet wide A Dv A car is 8.8 feet wide I believe due to the Dual Contracts, the distance between the tracks is greater on post-Dual Contract IRT lines. These lines COULD have the potential of running Div B cars because of the greater spacing, but there are other constraints such as signals and other things: -IRT Woodlawn -IRT Pelham -IRT Dyre Avenue Line (north of 180th) -IRT White Plains Line (north of 180th) -IRT Flushing Line (from Queenboro Plaza to Flushing) -IRT Eastern Parkway Line (Atlantic to New Lots) -IRT Flatbush Line (Atlantic to Flatbush Terminal) -IRT 7th Avenue Line (Times Square-42nd Street to Court Street) -IRT Lexington Avenue Line (from Grand Central-42nd Street) You CANNOT run Div B cars on the following lines -Lexington Avenue Line (south of Grand Central) -42nd Street Shuttle -Flushing Line east of Queensboro Plaza -7th Avenue Line (96th to just north of Times Square) -Broadway Line (242nd Street to 96th Street) -Bronx Line (180th Street to 96th Street via Lenox) -Lenox Branch -South Ferry Loops -Joralemon Tunnel (Bowling Green to Borough Hall) -Borough Hall to Atlantic http://www.stationreporter.net/adiv.htm

And yes, they are used for lay ups.
