That's not going to deter people. That's just going to cost taxpayers more money to lock up people needlessly for no reason. Longer prison sentences don't actually stop people from committing a crime, which is why even a lot of Republican heavy states are now reducing sentencings for many crimes.

It's not being an a**hole when you're enforcing the rules. Mr. Thomas was under no obligation to give that criminal any transfer, especially when he evaded the fare. It's an absolute shame he was killed, but we shouldn't have to bend over and turn the cheek on crime either.

How did you come to such a conclusion? I've been one of the most outspoken posters on here over the years for saying what needs to be said which is that workers should be held accountable if they are unprofessional, and there are plenty of those floating about. I've also acknowledged that there are plenty of good dedicated workers at the agency. I have recommended the Apple Award for a few B/Os over the years. I wish they could get more quite frankly. I hate how a lot of the best workers have the lowest seniority so they just get the bottom of the barrel, while some of the guys with seniority are the absolute worst. That said, the appropriate thing to do is simply file a complaint and let the agency reprimand the individual which may include them being fired. Assaulting anyone however is just a no no. It should never reach that level, not unless they physically assault a passenger and you need to defend yourself. It works both ways. If a passenger becomes angry over a particular worker, speaking with them is fine IMO. I've found that often times when there is dialogue things can work out well. Things happen. We're all human.

I was hoping to get some shots of them with the LIMITED sign but I forgot the B82 LTD doesn't run on Saturdays. Nevertheless, enjoy!

The monitors are usually used at curved stations where it's hard if not impossible to observe the platform and close down safely without them. It would probably be hard to justify the cost of installing them at every single station when they don't need them. And even with the monitors it's still recommended to look outside of your window and observe because yeah it may look clear in the rear of the train, but you may have some passenger who bolted last minute to the next car from your position and and stuck their arm in the train (because lord knows my train is the last train on earth) now you're looking at the monitor and see the doors closed in the rear but you don't have indication for the rear section of the train. It happened to me today at Union Square. Also not surprised to see someone in here justifying an employee getting assaulted, yet they complain about the service smh.

Let's not turn this into a haves vs have-nots situation. These are just some thugs looking to cause trouble and simply used the first opportunity that came to mind. The fact the train bypassed their stop was really just an excuse to start shit.

No, they are designed to do that. The DMs fail because EMD hasn't built a decent passenger locomotive since GM sold it to the banks.

The 165th Street bus terminal is nearby, and with everyone heading up to take the bus, there was a need to install those gates. https://web.archive.org/web/20120204051254/http://www.stationreporter.net/ftrain.htm

As mentioned in text, may not be a bad idea to try out bodycams, or a dashcam like system on trains. Would be great for scaring off or identifying criminals like those in the video, even if incidents like these are pretty rare. Other than that, have no idea who those people are, definitely gotta get some chill pills, or a shrink.

Let me just put this out there People have no right to assault an operator. However, riders should know which T/O or B/O or conductor is driving which train. This way people could complain more to the MTA. When people feel like they have control, violence goes down. Some buses I believe in LA or something has the following on their interior bus display date, time, stops and B/O number. It’s time to do the same in NY

Thanks, I figured it had to somehow work like that. Crowding. There are gates by the stairwells to prevent people from falling on to the tracks when queuing to go up to the mezz.
  16. 1 point
Operationally, local trains would use the crossovers just east of 169 to access the express tracks. The switch between the two express tracks was a double xover back then, so trains would simply relay there. Express trains would terminate at Parsons relaying east using the still extant xovers. I don’t follow. Are you referring to area crime? Or crowding?

Uber and Lyft taking another hit. With so much protest from taxi drivers around the world over the way the two companies do business it's no surprise this passed.

Yes, it will unless those 4 car r160's sets on the C can "magically" be modified into 5 car sets and stay on the C. Once the C becomes full length, the only place where displaced 4 car r160's from the C will be able to go is on the G. The JMZ will have all 8 car r179's, which will cover the entire JZ fleet, plus the r160's that still run on the JZ and the M will only get 50 additional r160's from the L.

I think that whole 7 years think is so stupid. You think a passenger gives a damn about that? Granted workers are not Federal workers, which I believe is part of the reason why the penalty isn't stiffer, but the way it's advertised has always been so stupid.

These platforms should be extended to accommodate the length of a full train PLUS increased headways. Now that would be effective

A couple of things to note: - The bus will be running out of Charleston, and will be relegated on the Lincoln Tunnel express lines, most likely the X17J. - This is not built to MTA specs, per the Alexander-Dennis people. It was built as a demonstrator for GO Transit in Toronto, Ontario. As such, the bus does not have a farebox upfront. I heard the farebox will be placed behind the front right wheel for this demonstrator. If the MTA does order the SuperLo, the farebox would be in front as is the norm...if they find a way. - The headroom in the upper level is low 5'7" and that is LOW. I'm 5'8", and my head was touching the ceiling. Many people had to crane their necks. I've never had to do that on a bus. - It was made in Nappanee, Indiana or so I was told. - The MTA plans to have off-board payment "concurrent" with a Smartcard, along with "robust" fare-evasion restrictions by 2020.
