That's not going to deter people. That's just going to cost taxpayers more money to lock up people needlessly for no reason. Longer prison sentences don't actually stop people from committing a crime, which is why even a lot of Republican heavy states are now reducing sentencings for many crimes.

How did you come to such a conclusion? I've been one of the most outspoken posters on here over the years for saying what needs to be said which is that workers should be held accountable if they are unprofessional, and there are plenty of those floating about. I've also acknowledged that there are plenty of good dedicated workers at the agency. I have recommended the Apple Award for a few B/Os over the years. I wish they could get more quite frankly. I hate how a lot of the best workers have the lowest seniority so they just get the bottom of the barrel, while some of the guys with seniority are the absolute worst. That said, the appropriate thing to do is simply file a complaint and let the agency reprimand the individual which may include them being fired. Assaulting anyone however is just a no no. It should never reach that level, not unless they physically assault a passenger and you need to defend yourself. It works both ways. If a passenger becomes angry over a particular worker, speaking with them is fine IMO. I've found that often times when there is dialogue things can work out well. Things happen. We're all human.

Let's not turn this into a haves vs have-nots situation. These are just some thugs looking to cause trouble and simply used the first opportunity that came to mind. The fact the train bypassed their stop was really just an excuse to start shit.

As mentioned in text, may not be a bad idea to try out bodycams, or a dashcam like system on trains. Would be great for scaring off or identifying criminals like those in the video, even if incidents like these are pretty rare. Other than that, have no idea who those people are, definitely gotta get some chill pills, or a shrink.

Let me just put this out there People have no right to assault an operator. However, riders should know which T/O or B/O or conductor is driving which train. This way people could complain more to the MTA. When people feel like they have control, violence goes down. Some buses I believe in LA or something has the following on their interior bus display date, time, stops and B/O number. It’s time to do the same in NY

Thanks, I figured it had to somehow work like that. Crowding. There are gates by the stairwells to prevent people from falling on to the tracks when queuing to go up to the mezz.

Crowding. Every set of stairs at 169th has bars leading up to them.

Uber and Lyft taking another hit. With so much protest from taxi drivers around the world over the way the two companies do business it's no surprise this passed.

Suppose the PA system in their car was not working... Suppose they go to mta.info for service changes and track work... I wouldn't be surprised if they owned a, you know, cell phone... Certainly you can get all that info there and know ahead of time. Yeah, some transit workers do have bad attitudes, but I'm pretty sure a lot of that comes from having to deal with jerk passengers that have no idea how the system works. You know, like the ones that leave their house with no cushion time; needing their commute to go absolutely perfect in order to get to work on time... ...No reason to put hands on the conductor.

Good luck and it won’t get better with the construction on Glenwood and the train mass project. I feel bad for East New York and Ulmer Park drivers who have to terminate at Rockaway.

The MTA should pay us more if they want us to stay in the city. We make a good single persons wage. When you throw a family into the mix, it becomes harder to stay here space wise and financially. That's why so many of us move outside of the city

THE ROCKAWAY PARKWAY AREA IS A MESS BUSES ARE STUCK FOR MORE THAN 15 IN THE AREA with buses switching drivers ,Traffic, confusion, and construction it’s terrible

I'm sorry but Bay Ridge elite? The wealthy people in the area avoid 4th Avenue and the like the plague. They wouldn't give two shits about where the terminates, they just avoid it right off the bat because its a subway. The area around the train is working class and mostly immigrant. If you want to find the elites, go ride the X27. As a matter of fact, if you want to invoke their wrath, propose changes to the X27 and see how that turns out. I'm sorry but i just can't believe this argument. Now if you want to argue the ends in Bay Ridge because of Staten Island elites you might have a point (even though it was mostly Mayor Hylan's hatred for the BMT, but thats a whole other discussion)

A couple of things to note: - The bus will be running out of Charleston, and will be relegated on the Lincoln Tunnel express lines, most likely the X17J. - This is not built to MTA specs, per the Alexander-Dennis people. It was built as a demonstrator for GO Transit in Toronto, Ontario. As such, the bus does not have a farebox upfront. I heard the farebox will be placed behind the front right wheel for this demonstrator. If the MTA does order the SuperLo, the farebox would be in front as is the norm...if they find a way. - The headroom in the upper level is low 5'7" and that is LOW. I'm 5'8", and my head was touching the ceiling. Many people had to crane their necks. I've never had to do that on a bus. - It was made in Nappanee, Indiana or so I was told. - The MTA plans to have off-board payment "concurrent" with a Smartcard, along with "robust" fare-evasion restrictions by 2020. Enviro 500 + XE40 #0012 and Catalyst #0019 on display outside 2 Broadway today. MTA employee on site says the Enviro will be deployed on the X17J first. Vehicle will not be deployed on routes via Brooklyn due to 12' 10" height vs Carey Tunnel. No fleet number. California plate. MTA livery is wrapped over Alexander Dennis demonstrator livery.

Edwin Thomas did not deserve to be killed he also should have just gave the transfer. You are a civil servent you here to help people not take matter into your own hands because you have power. You have desertion when it come to the fare but most choose to be ass holes because they can.

Sadly this is the way our dysfunctional society is going. People can't be trusted but machines (which mess up just as often and oftentimes more dangerously!) can!!! You have an armada of cellphone wielding zombies out there ready to videotape every infraction by their fellow citizens, including the cops, but yet when something illegal goes down, somehow the video only shows the person defending themselves. You have the end of all loopholes, so there's no good ways to make money anymore, because anyone who figured them out figured out the best way to exploit it was to write a book about it so a million copycats could do it too. Playgrounds have been sterilzed, children are winding up in courts and the prison system, and on terrorist lists for things they are doing while their age number is still a single digit, bullies are empowered, and people are taught turn the other cheek which never solves anything. As a nation, they took our houses (real estate bubble), our finances (skyrocketing costs of living), our goodpaying and productive jobs (outsourcing), our upward mobility (skyrocketing cost of education), soon they'll be coming for our cars (impossible parking in most cities, high costs of vehicle ownership due to fines etc., and soon driverless cars). But you have the internet and a cell phone. LIFE IS GOOD! When people wake up it will already be too late. In fact it probably is already. Wake up people. Everything is being idiotproofed and it's not working. Remember that the next time you see some blubbering idiot politician bleating for "platform screen doors" or "more CBTC"
