  1. Hillary Clinton's loss in Pennsylvania or any other state back in the 2016 election has absolutely nothing to do with the Canarsie repairs project. Please keep this to the actual topic at hand.

  2. Drivers hauling ass is definitely due to my group. We’ve made it clear that we want buses moving again like the old days...

  3. Well, it's a good thing that shutdown isn't happening, now is it? We are no strangers to teething issues here. The 142s were infamous for being in and out of service during the first few years in operation for one reason or another and despite those issues, they would later go on to become some of the best workhorses in the system. With that said, however, it has gotten extremely annoying that a car class delayed by several years due to builder issues can arrive on site and still be defective after such a extended length of time. It's going to look really bad if the test train of 211s arrives before this order is complete. If there's any consolation, I guess it's a good thing these issues are cropping up now while they're under warranty and not several years later when the costs of repairs would fall solely on us.

  6. Morning trips on the QM1 have been all filled for the most part, but at night all hell breaks loose. I put on BusTime in my office immediately before 4pm religiously, and start checking what’s coming and what isn’t, or I go to a random stop and start checking, and no matter what I make a point to check for EVERY QM1. The last two days, the 4:00 and the 4:30 have come. I note the time, bus # etc in my iPad to keep it for the Comptroller’s Office to show them how horrendous service has been on some lines. After 4:30 there seems to be SEVERAL QM1 buses missing, and yes this is strange because the 4:00pm and the 4:30pm are supposed to have second trips at 6:30 and 7pm respectively. I’m not sure if the drivers are screwing around or what, but that is VERY possible. I remember the first weekend we started monitoring service, we picked a Saturday because there was a detour along 6th. We tried to take TWO QM5 trips to Glen Oaks and could NOT get either trip, one at 6th and 42nd and the later one at 3rd and 57th. We NEVER got the one at 3rd and 57th, yet he pops up on BusTime going to Queens. Monday morning I buzzed my contact and told him, and he confirmed that the trips were missing but didn’t elaborate and apologized. Just imagine being chewed out about missing trips before the Board, and that weekend you have trips that go missing. It’s like putting salt in an open wound. lol Now that 3pm guy listen to this. I see the SAME bus later after having taken a trip with the QM6 to North Shore Towers. This bus is now a QM6 to Midtown (as I’m sure you know, the QM5 can turn into QM6s and vice versa). I board the bus to see who the driver is. It’s not a rookie. The guy is definitely a vet. The guy looked at me wondering if I was an guy checking service but one of those undercover types looking to bust a driver doing something wrong. I could tell by the way he was eyeing me. When I got off at 57th and 3rd, I made a point to be a smart @ss and ask him point blank if he was the 3pm bus? He said no in a curt tone. I don’t buy that because that bus laid over right by North Shore Towers (kept tracking it on BusTime) and he had a nice long break, so I would be shocked if drivers were switched. Sunday morning I had a rookie on the QM6 and took her again to Midtown. 30 minutes late both ways. I suspect that that’s part of the problem too. Lots of newbies. She didn’t do anything more than 20 tops even though there was no traffic. Seemed like she was still in training the way she acted. Some depots have not only new drivers but new management too, so it’s a bit of a mess, not to mention guys being promoted.

  7. Well how else would " drivers now hauling ass due to my group" I don't see how any depot SI or not would just be magically hauling ass lol

  8. everyone in the class does it differently. Some are trying to memorize them but it doesn't work (1-2 people are not doing well). The ones who are on track to passing are all writing them out every night. You gotta test yourself every night, write them out. Otherwise they'll never stick. Our TSSs try to give us unofficial signal quizzes every other day. But really, you should be quizzing yourself every night. Some people in the class study together but for the most part everyone is solo.

  9. Cuomo is quite clearly not doing this because he cares about New Yorkers. As the number of times the words "innovation" "unique" and "cutting-edge" were used in the presentation should make clear (esp. when compared to the glossing over of community impacts) the point of this was to pose him as a red-tape slashing, involved, tech-aware politician not afraid to challenge the "transportation-industrial complex." You're gonna respond with a different format of this same post (ten bucks says you have a google doc full of templates) but that's my two cents.

  13. I wish I knew why it seems like. I think it’s a College Point depot thing because it’s been happening for years on several of the routes. The Q25 does the same exact thing and then there could be a 20-30 minute gap for the next bus. If they were smart they would have one of the buses fill in the gap by departing 10 minutes later.

  14. the 36 at FB (or at least splitting it with UP) is a very interesting thought. someone also suggested the B4 at FB (or at least splitting it by sending part of the run board back to UP) either way, we're getting into fantasy land so to speak and as I've stated, the logistics of actual run times, pull outs/pull ins gets deeper than just a strike of a pen to send lines here & there just for the sake of restructuring a flawed division (personal opinion) by the way, i LOVE the ideas of the 9 at FB and the Q54 at GA (i think FP doesn't need the headache anymore, but i digress)

  15. That has been done before. In Berlin the BVG retrofitted one two-car F84 unit (2770/2771) with an open gangway in the early 90s in order to test those for the H95 trains. Also in Hamburg the class 474/874 trains are undergoing a redesign right now where they are equipped with open gangways; before that all 474/874 cars had a blind end with a window.

  17. No, no, no you got it all wrong... The Philly area was strongly for Hillary. She lost the rest of the state and Michigan and Wisconsin because she didn't campaign there in the last week.

  18. I always stated FB will be a future artic fleet bus depot routes. Majority of the routes can handle artic buses except for the B2 and B31 due to the last stop at kingshwy station. I can smell the 41 turning into artic when they enroll the sbs in the nearby future.

  19. There is likely an internal schedule (Google Maps shows the scheduled departure times). It's just that they allow operators to run ahead of schedule or hold them back a bit more compared to the current setup. (Similar to the subway. There's a lot of people who don't realize that there actually is a schedule for it).

  20. 👋 I am a train operator, I’m pretty well versed in who’s in charge of what. That being said, that bulletin wasn’t directed at RTO. If you read it, it explains essential positions are exempt. RTO IS ESSENTIAL 🤦‍♂️. My point, 🤷‍♂️. Just saying there’s no freeze for RTO. There will be classes and you will be called. Relax, it’s all coming around. I’m only on here to watch for my wife’s cousin being called and possibly give some insight. I’m just gonna watch from this point on. Y’all seem to have it under control 🤦‍♂️. Good luck😉

  21. I forgot to add what we’ll be discussing: -Feasibility of HOV lanes on various expressways (The Bruckner, The Cross Bronx, The Major Deegan, LIE, etc.) -TSP (Traffic Signal Priority) for express bus service. We’d like an idea of a timeline for its implementation, something we’ve been unable to obtain during our meeting with elected officials. -Feasibility of bus shelters for express bus stops in both Manhattan and outer borough locations. Express bus service is supposed to be a “premium service” according to the , yet express bus riders have very few bus shelters in comparison to local bus stops, especially when considering that wait times can be long during off-peak hours where service may only be hourly.

  22. UPDATES: We got word late yesterday afternoon that our second meeting with the will happen WITH the DOT (finally). We will pick from a list of dates that works for both parties in the coming days and finalize a date this month. Additionally, Councilman Justin Brannan (Democrat-Brooklyn) posted this in our advocacy group: Per Justin Brannan: Introducing a bill with my Staten Island colleagues that will help with your PM commute if you ride the x27/28 from lower Manhattan https://www.silive.com/news/2019/01/bill-to-restrict-tour-buses-could-ease-staten-islanders-commute.html

  23. Hi there all........ Time to pay it forward....... I'm in school car now.....the 12/31 class.... I'm list#103X.... I was one of the last ones appointed. The highest list# in this class is #1041. This class is filled with more than a few pre -list#898 that was last reported to be the last # appointed on this thread. The reason for that I'm guessing is because they didn't have any classes for October and November and this is the class to catch up and get in. Most if not all were because of medical holds that were cleared and those that had to get proper paper work....correct spelling on Birth Certificates, ID - Driver Licenses, and etc... Also in this class are a few reinstatement.....C/Rs coming back from workers comp and some promotionals. Not sure about the promotionals, but for sure the reinstatements do not have list# Just saying..... Not to call anyone out, but I guess I am....... there are a bunch of people in this class that either outright or tip toed mentioning this thread...forum and not giving back. I was guilty of it and why I stated pay it forward in my first sentence and am now registered to post instead of just lurking. This Great Forum only works if people contribute and the reason why you're walking around and referencing this wealth of knowledge. Yeah......in school car, they're bombarding us with info and studying material and traveling, but please let's help and contribute...... This thread was off the hook with crazy info earlier before....let's keep feeding it....... Just saying.......

  24. In any event, they are both Dutch names. Plenty of Dutch influence on Staten Island and all around the City given that the Dutch settled NYC. Staten Island is from the Dutch word "Staaten Eylandt" (literally 'States Island'), that the English anglicized to Staten Island. Plenty of other examples as well... All of the words on Staten Island that end with "Kill" are Dutch words... "Great Kills" is another one...
