    To be honest, Andy Byford was the best choice for the MTA. When it comes to modernization, Byford had a lot of ideas to improve subways and buses, such as the Fast Forward plan. Also, when he was in charge, subway delays went down, and it was much better. However, thanks to Andrew Cuomo, I think the MTA may fail at some point, however I could be wrong. Cuomo shouldn't go after Byford just because of his spectacular job. Overall, Byford was a great choice for the MTA, and would've begun a renaissance for the system.

    That is the shit that pisses me off. The should not be a rule, and people on here wonder why service is the way it is. Some people on here defend the MTA in every way but refuse to bring up the flaws. MTA be like "here's for faster bus service" they do everything but change that damnn rule. Change that damnn rule and service would be better. If one driver can haul safely then they all should be able to haul safely or try to. People complain about automated trains taking people's job, well one thing it does bring is CONSISTENCY with each train. When you have humans you can have a T/O who follows the speed limit, and another T/O who feels the train shake down the train and wants to slow down to 10mph under. I like consistency, the key to life is consistency (STAYING TO SCHEDULE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE is a start).

    Im pretty sure our politicians had everything to do with this. They want to the MTA to be incompetent so they can use it for political leverage.

    If you look at the chart carefully, there are minus signs next to the r32's, r42's and r46's and a plus sign next to the r211's. That graph was explained in yesterday's board meeting. This is the MTA's explanation of the graph: By August 2023, there won't be any r32's and r42's and the MTA confirmed in yesterday's board meeting that they'll be retired way before August 2023, 240 r46 cars will be gone and 535 r211's will be delivered and/or in service. By December 2024, 512 r46's cars will be gone and 650 r211's will be delivered and/or in service. Also, notice that now 58% of NYC Subway rolling stock is composed of NTT'S. Also, Byford said that inspection, and testing on the r179's is complete and they pretty much got the green light from Bombardier and a third party for the r179's to go back in service some time this week.

    Since we're throwing out our predictions, I'll have a go: Base order 440 cars SIR 75 cars Option 1: 260 cars (note: R211s displace the Siemens R160s to the which displace the R179s to the and the R68s to the ) 380 cars Option 2: 405 cars 32 cars (I am not expecting many R211s to hit the or but I still see it as a possibility hence they make the list)

    The reason I asked the question is Byford seemed to be a man of his word and cared. With him gone, what happens to his promises that the Queens Bus Network Redesign is still in its early, early stages and this is just a first draft? That there is no time schedule involved and the MTA will revise it until all the concerns are heard and they get it right. The official timetable says April will be the Final Draft. That means only minor tweaks thereafter. So with additional workshops, Town Halls, requests for meetings by Community Boards still to occur, how could a Final Draft possibly be ready by April? In order for that to happen, planners would have to start working on it now before the remaining meetings even occur. Who will change the timetable with Byford out of the picture or will it be changed?

    Yes they're losing money, and yes it to fare beating, guess what? Its been going on for the longest time and things were only put in place recently to stop it. Its not like it was 5 years to get it done, they literally just started having cops on the bus since last year. So its not even fare to even put all the blame on him when others had the opportunity to help stop fare beating. Remember 2010? I was in high school and student metrocards were on the chopping block so I mean its not like you can blame him for a problem thats been going on. He actually tried to stop it and was public about it. Its not even comparable to your department to the MTA. As I said before its run by corrupt politicians and many other people who know the problems. Why do you think Byford was able to have an okay time at other agencies around the world but yet managed to storm out of ours? We have a very, very, very corrupt agency, from the corrupt workers, the union bosses, contractors, lawyers, and you name it. The MTA is a cash cow for them and they'll milk it until it will run dry. Blaming Cuomo isn't a joke, its the truth, the butt heads and this was the result. The transit system has been crap for years and it took social media and the news to get him to care, hell, even our crappy mayor didn't give a crap about our buses until now. The MTA is being held by its dingies and Byford fought to make things change.

    I saw this coming. The MTA is beyond redemption. Good luck convincing us Upstaters that you really want that $50bn. because a whole lotta promises are about to be broken. The city is in an engineered breakdown and Byford is inconvenient. You may use the term "conspiracy theorist" with abandon against me, but it does not change your reality.

    Listen, at this moment I still can't cope with myself. His resignation is like if a Family Member had passed away. This guy turned around the system, made a big blueprint for success within 100 days of his leadership, and has stabilized the system and made it a success in the 2 years as NYCT President, and I thank him so much for his service which will be missed.

(Jesse Ward/for New York Daily News) The MTA is ready to finally fix a decades-old double-charge for straphangers who transfer between two intersecting Brooklyn subway stations, making good on a 5-year-old promise. Riders who switch between the Livonia Ave. L station and the Junius St. No. 3 stop must exit the turnstiles at one station, walk along an outdoor elevated path, then down stairs to cross a city a street, and then back up a set of stairs before swiping through the turnstiles at the other end. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s new $51.5 billion capital plan earmarks $38.4 million to connect the two stations, which are less than 1,000 feet apart, under a single enclosed facility. The agency also plans to spend millions more to make the new mega-station accessible. “They should have done this in the ’80s,” said straphanger Johnny Walker, who uses the transfer regularly. ”This whole thing is based on greed over progress." Transit planners budgeted $30 million for the same “connector” project in the agency’s 2015-2019 capital plan, along with another $15 million for a set of elevators at the stations. The MTA only spent $400,000 of that money for “pre-design activities,” said MTA spokesman Tim Minton. The construction of the project was rolled over into the agency’s 2020-2024 capital plan — with a 28% cost increase. Riders who use the transfer have had some relief over the past nine months as part of the ongoing construction on the L line. The MTA reprogrammed the turnstiles at the two stations to allow for a free transfer, just as is available at the much wealthier Upper East Side’s 59th and 63rd St. stations. But MTA officials haven’t yet decided whether the free transfers will continue until the connector project is finished. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams wasn’t surprised the MTA continued to collect two fares from riders with pay-per-ride MetroCards years after they initially promised to build the free connection. The New Lots Line that now carries the No. 3 and No. 4 lines was opened by the Interborough Rapid Transit Company in 1920.     The Station's Physical Structure hasn't changed in over a century. Rather than demolish and rebuild everything by the railyard, MTA just did nothing with the property. The MTA doesn't even want to program a transfer between the and the for East New York and Canarsie Residents. Is Brownsville Haunted by the Mother Gaston or something?

    They basically do the same thing, use whichever one you like. He definitely did in many ways, he flipped the state of Toronto’s transit system so I had no doubt he would do good for us. I do hope the gets better from here, at its current state though, that sounds like a hilarious thing to say.

    Flatbush can do (likely a good bit) more than 18 if you recrew faster and schedule tighter. A not insignificant amount of time is consumed via pocket dwell today. They use both pockets at Utica AFAIK. Policy would definitely help at Utica, but it's unclear to me how much can be changed without also tinkering with schedules to absolutely minimize time in pockets. It's also one of those things where the other service alternative provides a better overall experience -- at least someone new gets a one seat ride up the East Side.

    Those buses are garbage though, but that doesn't excuse them sending out like that. I think Gun Hill just has some of the busiest lines like the Bx12 and they run the buses into the ground, then send them elsewhere, including Kingsbridge. I will say this... One way to get changes done is to complain to the big wigs. Go to the board meetings and make a stink. That usually gets some results, since those board meetings have media there as well. The board members also get to see how many official complaints come in. If there's a huge spike, then questions start coming up. Yesterday, one board member asked Craig Cipriano about the "442% increase" on some Brooklyn bus lines. He said he had to get back him. LMAO.

    R211s will probably go to the to replace older cars while the could get them to help with QBL crowds. It would be better to just give those R160s back to CI after the R211s start coming in.

    Attended what I was told was the first SPA exam, for this exam it was held on Dec 21st at 8 am, they said they would be holding additional spa exams based on scores for next few months and then we could expect the exams being released in 6 months to a year from then.

    Imagine how it was for 30 years of cab time because I’m allergic to peanuts . I swept and mopped many cabs in my career. Peanut shells, candy wrappers, chewing gum inside the cab . Sodas, coffee, beer, wine from outside the cabs seeping under the cab doors. I remember riding the DC Metro years ago and comparing it to NYCT. Night and day. Thing is it’s not only the coworkers but the whole NYC metropolitan area in general. Take a ride on the LIRR from KO to Penn Station and look at the garbage that piles up on that run. I remember that there was a hotdog and soda stand at the bottom of the escalators at Broadway Junction above the IND platforms. My family made us finish eating ( if they sprung for it ) before we descended down to the IND platforms. There were also some penny gum machines on the columns at the south end of those platforms and if we got any gum we had to keep the cardboard packets for gum disposal in the solar cans when we left the train. I guess that would be considered old fashioned and an inconvenience in today’s world. Just my recollections. Carry on.
