  4. Spotted an Xcelsior Charge in Central Islip this morning. Interesting. Another dash cam capture, I see MTA buses out here almost daily with the occasional NICE & DC Metrobus thrown in:

  5. It's the sensors placed above the door that keep track of the passenger count. The fareboxes can only provide a general overview on how a certain trip is performing overall.

  6. The counters are not always accurate. I’ve been on buses that were said to be crowded according to MTA Bus time but might of had 12 people onboard when I boarded.

  10. ...you mean OMNY? lol To be honest, I wish they would expand to NICE more quickly because I keep getting screwed on the 2-transfers w/ Metrocard and OMNY is just efficient and easy to report if it mischarges me on my card. Metrocard is a real PITA to work with. It would be great if SCT would hop onboard too but if they don't have Metrocard as it is, it seems unlikely that they'll install pricey NFC readers on their buses, which when they break or malfunction, MTA or Cubic has to send one of their guys out to SCT to fix.

  12. But does that mean the opposite must be embraced. The hardcore opposite, such as expansions of the 14th Street project to other streets? Why can't a balanced approach be possible? 14th Street bus may be practical during rush hours, but what about after rush hours, when there could be more cars on the street than passengers in the buses? Want to knockdown FDR Drive next, because it's an eyesore in Lower Manhattan, well don't put it past them. Funny how road infrastructure is always seen as eyesores while rail infrastructure isn't. Urban planners want to make a city look nice no matter what, while traffic engineers want to keep the city running practically.

  13. According to this article, the first cars could come this week...... or they could be delayed until June. https://www.ny1.com/nyc/all-boroughs/transit/2021/03/30/newest-mta-train-model-continues-to-face-delays-amid-covid-19

  14. This is a RFW video from the London Crossrail project, which is in its testing phase. The new line (to be called the Elizabeth line) runs west to east across London. The project has had its fair share of delays and overruns, but it will be a very important link, or at least might have been if COVID hadn't hit.
