And dont put lotion or deodorant all over you like yours truly or youll incur the wrath of said nurse as she scrubs you down with alcohol pads, and applies several layers of scotch tape to each sensor, trying to get them to stay put

What if they are tickets that are being fought in court? Just remembered I got a Lawyer fighting one for me. Plus. MTA Train Operator is not a Driving Job, I asked the front desk if they needed a driving abstract or records of driving and they said no because you won't be driving any company vans or busses.

Youll need to have any pending cases, moving violations, parking tickets, summons ANYTHING pending resolved before you can move forward. I had a lawyer fight a ticket for me as well because I didnt want the points. Took 3 years of postponing dates till it finally got tossed. That was early on before the list was established so i had time, even after i got the initial call to come in for pre-employment. You may not have that kind of time left till the list expires. Ive spoken to quiet a few of my colleagues who took the hit and got the points just so they could get the job. Bottom line,  dont have anything pending regardless of the position youre going for.

  3. For anyone placed on medical hold, who do you contact once you've been cleared by your doctor or have the paperwork needed to show that you are clear to work? I cant seem to find a phone number or email address that anyone will answer. Thank you to anyone who can assist.

Congrats on being called! Just wondering what email did they send the canvass letter from? List #13xx and I haven't seen anything in my inbox or junk mail. I don't want to miss it.

    My canvas email came from

    nyctransithrops@nyct.com

Make sure to check your spam folder as well. Sometimes legit mail ends up in there.

Congratulations 🎉. I have to report tomorrow to 180 Livingston for drug test. I think this is going to be the 4th time I go since list has been out. I lost count already. I Am not holding my breath this time either.

Hey TeeFredNYC, how long were you at Livingston completing pre-employment. Hoping to be in and out as I would hate to have to call out at work.

I was in and out in about 90 mins. No line outside like there usually is. I got in, signed a few docs, waited to be called in for the urine test and was out in record time. I was assuming it would be a ln hrs long ordeal like other times but because of Covid they're limiting how many people can be in the building. Pretty much a ghost town compared to past visits.

I received two phone calls/emails with my canvas letter this week. List #14**. However, they did not provide a due by date or an email to submit it to. I tried calling the number provided. No answer and the voicemail is full. If you don't mind me asking? What email did you send it back too?

  7. Just a quick update. Got my canvas email on Tuesday the 23rd, filled everything out and submitted the same night. Received another email to come down to 180 on Tuesday the 30th, to continue the process today. So it looks like things are moving along. Good luck to everyone.

When do the August class emails get sent out? (If anyone knows)

My guess would be up until the Friday before the class starts.  I got called in for the medical and final processing for conductor the Wednesday, the week before i had to report for orientation that following Monday. Literally had to resign from my previous job with 2 days notice.

was the 50$ report sufficient for MTA?  other city jobs i signed up for required the $150 something dollar one with the full details.

You wont actually be submitting the paper work from Social Security to the MTA, it's for you, to jog your memory in terms of dates and to be sure what ever jobs you list match up with what they'll find out in a background check anyway. So it's not 100% necessary. I only got the report to confirm some dates, I only worked a handful of jobs but forgot the time periods. Even if you don't remember the exact dates, an estimate is ok, just be sure you can account for any gaps.

Does anyone know what info you to accurately complete the pre employment packet? I work in Albany but live in NYC. I don’t want to take multiple days off so I can gather the info from different agencies. I know for sure I need court dispositions for arrests, but I got a ticket on the train for taking up two seats. Do I need any paperwork for that ticket? Do I need copy of my H.S diploma? Or my social security statements to prove I worked at a job for over a year? Any info will help.

    Sorry about the long question...

You can go to any social security office and ask for a print out of your complete work history. I paid $50 for the report about 2yrs ago when I did this for conductor. It will list every job you've had along with dates worked. You can fill in the rest of the details, like responsibilities etc. They'll (meaning the MTA, not SS) ask for a detailed history of what you've been doing to support yourself since HS (i.e. college, living with parents, worked "x" job etc). They just don't want to see any gaps on your work history. As long as you have a good 10yrs or so worth of work experience/education. You'll be good. Just don't omit anything. Even if you were fired. Being fired from a previous job won't disqualify you, lying on the application will. I've heard stories of them pulling people out of school at because they found out the person lied on the application. Remember, they don't start the background check until AFTER, you've been hired. Good luck to all

Got my letter. I'm in the 900 range. This is going faster than I expected.

But.... BUT. I'm suppose to come in for pre-employment in the middle of my vacation week and I'll be 6 time zones away on the 7th. Yay 😑😑

Will they still hire you if you have Sleep Apnea?

As long as you can show that you're being treated for it and have a CPAP machine that's being used, you should be ok. Either way, they'll likely make you take a sleep study if you have a neck bigger than a 17 or admit to snoring.

I haven't been called in yet, but from what I'm seeing in here, list is gonna move fast and I may be called in before the year is over. I'm kind of having a personal dilemma about it though.

I recently started college and it has been going really well so far. I don't want to leave school, but from what I've read the mta schedule is very hectic. I also don't want to lose the time I get to spend with my wife and daughter since right now I only work 9 to 5 m thru f. However, 36.25 an hour is nothing to brush aside. Would make a huge difference in my family's life financially.

I'm 90 percent sure I'm going to take the t/o job but man I'm not looking forward to not seeing my little girl for days. I know it's possible people exaggerate but I keep hearing for the first year all I'll get to do is work and sleep.

The first 8 or 9 months of being a T/O is spent in school car. You'll have a steady schedule week to week plus weekends off. After that, you'll be extra extra and your days off are likely to change week to week unless you claim Sabbath Observance. All in all it's not TERRIBLE. BUT. You wont have much of a social life. Either way, it'll get better. I'm a C/R in the A division.

  15. Thanks again for all who have provided info.

I am curious (hoping some of you who are already at MTA can answer this): what are the pay/promotional opportunities for train operators after getting off probation? I know the hourly rate at 40 hours a week comes out to around 66k. How much overtime is there? Does the pay increase with time? What higher paying positions could one possibly move to from the TO position? I would be leaving an established career to take this job (if I were to get offered he job which is still not a sure thing of course) so I am interested in the advancement possibilities. Thanks again.

I dont have the papers in front of me at the moment but i can tell you that top pay for T/O is $35 and some change/hr. T/Os can easily make 120k+ a year because of all the OT available plus the ability to work one of your days off, Do layups at the end of your run etc. Dont go by base pay because, outside of schoolcar, your always going to make more than that due to OT (some runs have OT built in). From Train Op you can promote to a supervision position like TSS or Train Dispatcher, but most TSS will tell you, even though the base for TSS is higher, youll wind up making less because your hours are more stable. It really comes down to how much time you want to spend at work.

  16. Another one: what is MTA policy regarding being heavily tattooed? Nothing visible when wearing a suit but otherwise covered.

As long as you dont have a swastika tatted in your forehead you should be fine. Ill have to check my rulebook but i doubt theres anything in there about tats.

  17. Preparing for school car and all of the traveling one topic I haven't seen covered is parking.. I know everyone doesn't travel to the stations by train. Are the cars that are parked upon the curb the cars of T/O's & TSS.. What's the best way to travel?

I can only personally speak for the A division yards. I drive in almost every day unless its a day where we'll visit multiple locations. New Lots, Corona, and 240 yard, you can park on the premises. For the other yards where you need a permit, ive had no problem finding street parking close to the yards. Sometimes right in front. Of course there is no guarantee that this will be the case for you, as i mentioned im in the A and ive also been on an evenings schedule (3-11) so this may factor in as well. As they say, you have a free pass for a reason. Youre taking a risk driving (traffic, accident, etc) that you dont have if your on public transit.

  18. Thanks brotha, yea I was arrested when I was 16 years old for smoking pot with my friends.. I received a 6 month ACD "adjournment in contemplation of Dismissal" and my record was cleared and then sealed because I was a minor, I don't mind mentioning that just in case, and the DMV will provide me with any traffic violation that caused points in the mail soon.. I def will be truthful, I'm glad the car accidents aren't an issue since they were just regular fender benders... and if the test is reading comprehension strictly then it's not an issue at all since my job involves reading comprehension on a daily basis. I appreciate all the help and information.

From what i gather, having a record doesnt disqualify you, lying about it does. You should be good to go.

  19. Hey guys, I'm new here.. I've actually been waiting for a long time now for the TO test to come up, I applied last week with no issues thankfully... I do have a few questions for those who are knowledgeable with the upcoming test... I know the test and call ups will not be for a while but in the mean time I would like to have all my documents (ducks in order). I've had a valid NYS drives license since I was 17 (35 now), so not an issue and I've been employed by the same company/employer for over 15 years... so that's fine, I have a NYC GED as well... I sent a request to the DMV for my "lifetime abstract driving record" ... I've been driving for almost 20 years, many years ago I remember getting a speeding ticket and a few times been given a ticket for failure to stop at a stop sign and also running a red light violation, of course many years ago when I was a teenager and in my 20's. Will this be an issue with the requirements?

Also I've had some car accidents, now... I've never been summoned or gotten any traffic violations durning any of the car accidents I've had. I mean I've been rear ended more times than I can remember since I started driving here in Brooklyn, I've also been hit by a drunk driver, I've lost control of my Volkswagen in 2012 and totaled the car against a guard rail but never hit anyone and most of my insurance claims have been for my own car and no liability issues, would this be a problem with the requirements?

And finally I was thinking about buying a Train Operator Pass Book on Amazon, I've read and heard some very mixed reviews on this book, some People say don't waste your money and others swear by them, anyone have info or opinions on this book??

As long as you dont have any unpaid parking tickets when youre called for the pre-employment process (years after the actual test) youll be fine. If you have any dings on your record, make sure to disclose them. Any discrepancy, intentional or not, may disqualify you. This goes for criminal history as well.

I believe the test is all ready comprehension, with the exception of the new oral assessments added to this test. If you can read and comprehend commandsbin the english language, you should be good to go.

  20. Whoa, Whoa! What?  Please sir, would you update the rest of us on some of the specifics as to why you were DQ'd?  If you've since found out why and, it's something which you prefer not to say I can understand and will assume it's an isolated incident specific to your situation.  Sorry this has happened to you or anybody because I'm anticipating a possible letter/call as well. thanks in adv.

Hi. Sorry for the delay in response. I dont know why i was DQ'd. As mentioned, i have a squeaky clean record (not even a speeding ticket in all my yrs of driving) and no explaination was given over the automated system. The only thing i can think of would be a discrepancy about my yrs of employement. In any case i got my pre-employment letter for test 8094 (Conductor) so im not stressing it at the moment. Sorry i couldnt provide more info.
